TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE IRISH ARE COMING...!

Wednesday, June 15, 2005 (TORONTO, ON) - The Toronto Lynx Soccer Club will play their first international friendly since 2002 when they take on the Dungannon Swifts FC of the Irish Premier League on Monday, July 11th at 7:00pm at the Nottawasaga Inn in Alliston, Ontario. This event is receiving an enthusiastic response from the Huronia Soccer District and the Irish Community in the GTA and has been sanctioned by the CSA and the Irish Football Association.

Dungannon Swifts enjoyed a very successful 2005 season, finishing in 4th place in the Irish Premier League, just 2 years after earning promotion from the First Division. Founded in 1949, Dungannon has a storied history, including gaining promotion to the IPL by winning the 2002/03 First Division Championship as well as capturing the Bob Radcliffe Cup 8 times and the Mid-Ulster Cup 3 times. Dungannon Swifts FC is coached by Joe McAree, winner of the Irish League Manager of the Year Award for leading Dungannon to a 15-10-5 record. The forthplace finish gave Dungannon the opportunity to enter the Intertoto Cup in Europe, however, they were forced to decline due to commitments to their Canadian Tour.

Dunganon Swifts Canadian Tour is part of their training program in preparation for the 2005/06 season. The Central Ontario Sports Administration & Marketing under the directorship of Mike Kenny is arranging the tournament and has also arranged for special soccer camps for clubs in the Huronia Soccer District which will be delivered by the Dungannon Swifts coaching staff and players. Full Day camps are available for only $160 and half day camps for $100.

Loyal Lynx fans will have the opportunity for complimentary reserved seating to the match with the purchase of a season ticket and flex pak package this season! For more information, fans may call the Toronto Lynx Ticket hotline at 416-251-4625 ext. 31 or e-mail lynx@lynxsoccer.com.

The Lynx have played four international friendlies in their history and have shown that they have the talent to take on high quality European Clubs. Competitions have included beating Iranian First Division champions; Persepolis 2-0 in 1998; losing 2-1 to Santa Clara of the Portuguese First Division in 1999; dropping a 2-0 decision to Reggina of Italian Serie A in 2000 and earning a 1-0 victory of TSV 1860 Munich of the German Bundesliga in 2002. The Lynx Head Coach, Hubert Busby Jr., promises a delightful competition for soccer fans.

WOW what a great date a monday night [xx(]as for the Loyal lynx fans, if we dont buy these tickets I guess the locals can come out. As far as I know Allison is located about 40 minutes north of Mississauga. Take HWY 10 north.

Nice to see these kind of matches in Canada. BTW, Dungannon, the Irish Premier League and Irish Football Association are in Northern Ireland (www.irishfa.com/index/), and are, of course, unrelated to the Eircom League and the Football Association of Ireland, which are in the republic (www.fai.ie/). It's in the latter where Jeff Clarke once plied his trade.

Man! Remember the days when big clubs would play games in Canada against local pro teams. Now we've come to this.

Irish club teams.

We have fallen so low. Or it is just the Lynx.

The Lynx did face and win against 1860 Munich a few years ago. At the time a Bundesliga club. The Lynx, moreso than other USL canadian clubs, have been more proactive in this regard.

I too would like to see more top Euro sides. But you need better ( more professional) facilities for that to happen. OH but wait!! you are against building better facilities for soccer!!!

ZING!!!!!

no actually swing and a miss.

Only an idiot would think that the Lynx's problems could be solved by SSS 20000 seat stadium in the Suburbs. Yes, open it and Chelsea will be beating down the doors to play in it.

Cash. Money. Travellers Checks and lots of them.

Real Madrid plays in the far east, not cause they love it there, but they can make a ton of money off it and sell a whack of stuff.

Give em enough cash and they'd play a game at Lamport on astroturf. Pro teams are whores....look at this Irish team. They rather make money running soccer camps in Canada, than lose money playing in Europe.

They didn't come this far to play CPSL teams or the Lynx. The came cause someone said the trip was free.

Yup. Lots of Cash. Money. Travellers Checks . Sounds like the same kind of people who have proper facilities for their team to play in.

Unless you are suggesting some other rich person like Ken Thompson or the Queen Of England will spend that kind of money (even though he doesn't even own a team) for someone else to benefit?
