Canada v. Colombia - Predictions? Thoughts?

I don't know about all of you... but I'm getting anxious. All day I've just been sitting at the computer reading the board and waiting for new posts haha...

Anyways, by reading most of your posts, it seems that the great majority of you believe that Canada will most likely lose, but just by how much. In my eyes, I believe Canada do have a realistic shot of tieing or winning against Colombia. I think near the end of the match against Syria they were coming together and playing some pretty attractive football, which they'll hopefully carry on against Colombia. Look at all these "surprising results" that are occuring in Holland, such as Brazil drawing with Nigeria (Nigeria had the majority of the possession too).

So any thoughts? Any predictions?

I'm borrowing mimglow's layout for a sec :)...

Score: 1-0 Canada... just because I want Canada to win so badly and I hate predicting Canada to lose.

First Canada Goal: Gyaki

Time of first Canada goal: 72'

First player carded: Edgar

First Colombia Goal: none

Time of first Colombia goal: none

First player carded: Aguilar

I feel for you Timotas...I've been doing the absolute same thing. At least for me, Colombia stands a very good chance at beating the Canucks, but I'm fancying the Canadians, partly because I hate rooting against them. We badly outplayed the Syrians in all facets of the game, and like you said we were coming together at the latter stages of the match vs. Syria.

I can't wait to see the game, can't wait to see Gyaki and Ledgerwood, my Alberta boys.

Time of First Canadian goal: 54'

Goal scored by: Gyaki (I think he'll score somewhat of a "cheap" goal, but a goal nonetheless)

Bah, what's the point in predicting?

I'm not too psyched for this game because I assume we'll have more chances against Italy. Although I'm curious to see how we'll fare against a strong opposition in a hostile setting.

Whats wrong with predicting? If you predict correctly...then you look like a genious :D

I would like to be a genious so I predict Canada 2 Colombia 1 (a PK) and 2 cards to Colombia. Goals by Gyaki (a shot) and Edgar a header of a CK.

I predict when there's something to play for or I need that to stay interested. I'm gonna watch the game anyways and hope for a Canadian win, so predicting won't do anything for me in this case.

And Current Champ needs to recount the CL pool ;).

While we might be considered the underdogs against Columbia despite the predictions on this thread, the talent levels of our U-20 team compared to theirs is probably a lot closer than it was to that of the teams in the Gold Cup when we beat them so there is certainly a good chance we could come away with a win or tie.

I'll say the Colombians are feelin' overly cocky. I saw at least one chance for one of the forwards to lay off an easy pass to make the score 3-0 against Italy... instead he decided to run right into the defence and lost the ball. A little frustration and I can see them running around.

Let's keep the faith... 1-0 Canucks!

wow,, good to see we have some optimists.. The online sportsbook I use isn't quite as optimistic as you guys as they have Canada at +850 for the game.. Meaning their about an 8 to 1 underdog to win this game which is huge odds for a single game between two teams.. Syria is also +850 to beat Italy... Even though I would love to see us win,, don't see it happening..Make the Final "Columbia 3 - Canada 1"

We need a win. That's all that matters.

ECHO......ECHO..... the top two teams per group plus the top 4 (or is it three) third place advance.

We need this game. I can't be the kinda fan the predicts a loss. WE WILL WIN :D

As much as I would love to see Canada win, I have a feeling the score will end up being around 2-0 for Colombia. The way I see it Colombia will go undefeated in this group and the Canada/Italy match will be the decisive one. I have faith that Canada can beat Italy and advance.

Guest Jeffery S.

I too think we can win, but only by taking it too them a bit and surprising them. I saw what happened to Chile yesterday, after blowing out Honduras they were blown out by Spain, mostly for psychological reasons.

We are normally a bit naive tactically. You have to run at a player with a yellow already, see if he'll bite. If you get up a goal you have to foul tactically in the midfield and cut off their counters. You have to use your ability to get corners to your benefit, sending in the big guys every damn time for the header.

I personally think what Dale should do this morning is show the kids the Gold Cup final, or at least the second half. Now that would be inspiring.

Well I apologize to break the ice but as a neutral and watching the game against the Italians gives me little doubt.

First half score Columbia 3 Canada 1

Final Score 4 - 1 and 5 -1 if there is a Penalty Kick.

I expect a physical game from the Columbians and their passing skills and attacking skills will cause many problems for the midfielders and defenders they will be late in their positions and consequently it will show in the cards.

Yellows cards 1 to Columbia, 5 to Canada and an ejection is possible for a Defender or a midfielder.

The last time I was wrong in Honduras and I truly hope that they come out with a win its better for us but I cannot see it any other way.

I think are chances aren't too bad. Could snatch a point. Would be surprised to see the Colombians bring a full effort to the match. And who knows? Couple or three key guys spending most of the contest on the bench can shake the whole system more than most would like to admit.

So here's to Colombia looking beyond Canada (and Syria for that matter) and saving a few of the top lads legs for the long haul.

Canada-1 Colombia-1
