TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lynx and Lady Lynx defend home turf this weekend!

Wednesday, June 1, 2005 (TORONTO, ON) - With the summer weather upon us, the United Soccer Leagues seasons are in full swing with both the Toronto Lynx and Lady Lynx playing home matches this weekend. The Lynx will welcome the Portland Timbers to Centennial Park Stadium on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30pm for Father and Son Night presented by VIA Rail, while the Lady Lynx will host the Vermont Lady Voltage on Sunday, June 5 at 4pm.

The Lynx will have another tough challenge as the Portland Timbers who are the defending USL First Division Champion make their first visit to Toronto since 2001. The Lynx head coach, Hubert Busby Jr. is expecting to have several new faces in the lineup as the Canadian transfer window opens today. Busby has been hard at work filling out his roster and looking for reinforcements to fill some key openings left by the Lynx' early season injury woes. Newly acquired midfielder/striker, Sita-Taty Matondo is expected to play despite being knocked unconcious by an errant Rochester elbow in the match on Wednesday May 31st.

Before the Timbers come to town, the Lynx will have another opportunity to clinch their first win of the season as they travel to Montreal to take on the defending USL First Division champion Impact on Friday, June 3. The match will be a homecoming for Matondo and Francois Abraham who were acquired from Montreal in exchange for striker Ali Gerba last month. The Impact have carried over last year's championship form beginning the 2005 season undefeated at 4-0-3 including a 1-0 victory over the Lynx in Toronto on May 15th.

The undefeated Toronto Lady Lynx will attempt to continue their hot start this weekend as they welcome the Vermont Lady Voltage on Sunday, June 5. The Lady Lynx are 3-0 to begin their inaugural W-League campaign, including a 3-1 overtime victory over Vermont in their first ever home opener. In that match, substitute striker, Kim Warner was the hero scoring both overtime markers. Since then, goalkeeper, Stacey Van Boxmeer has been the story for the Lady Lynx, recording back to back shutouts to lower her goals against average to a miniscule 0.31. Lady Lynx head coach, Brett Mosen, will have his entire roster at his disposal after the Lady Lynx were missing 7 players for their previous match in Sudbury due to a Canadian National Team U18 tournament.

FRASER SELECTED TO ATTEND NATIONAL TEAM TRAINING CAMP

Speedy midfielder, Sean Fraser, was selected to attend the Canadian National Team training camp in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from June 4-9. Fraser, a native of Edmonton, Alberta has previously represented Canada at the U20 and U23 level. However, this will be his first opportunity to train with the full national team. National Team Head Coach, Frank Yallop will use the camp, which is made up of mostly USL First Division Players, to evaluate several players heading into this summer's Gold Cup. The National Team will play one exhibition match during the camp.

DODDS EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOURS

Lynx midfielder, Jamie Dodds, was named the USL First Division Player of the Week today following a 1 goal, 2 assist performance in a 4-4 draw versus Puerto Rico on Saturday. Dodds was on his game for the entire 90 minutes, supplying striker Dave Simpson with 2 goals off set pieces, including a corner kick that put the Lynx ahead 4-3 in the 90th minute. Dodds also capitalized on a set piece of his own, bending a brilliant free kick just inside the far post in the 68th minute to tie the match at three. The honour was the first for Dodds in his professional career and the first USL First Division Player of the Week selection for the Lynx since Niki Budalic earned the honour in 2002.
