Fury add three forwards to 2005 PDL roster

[April 29th, OTTAWA, ON] The expansion Ottawa Fury have added three attacking players to their evolving Premier Development League roster. Local players Justin Dasah and Francis Mavula are joined by Desmond Tachie from British Columbia.

“I am delighted with the addition of these three exciting young players. Justin and Francis are recognized as the two top young local strikers over the past couple of years and they will now have the opportunity to show their ability playing in a top league. The Ottawa Fury are committed to giving our top local talent a stage to showcase their talents. Desmond is a very direct player who possesses tremendous speed and is an excellent crosser of the ball. I am sure he will be a tremendous asset to us this season”, remarked Fury Head Coach, Colin McCurdy.

6 ft 1 in, 180 lbs, striker Justin Dasah, joins the Fury after playing locally for the Gloucester Hornets and the Bytown Gunners. A consistent goal scorer for all his club teams, 22 year old Justin represented Ontario at the 2001 Canada Summer Games scoring 5 goals. Justin has attracted the interest of a number of European clubs and was invited for trials at Tranmere Rovers, Birmingham City, Caen, Toulouse and Charleroi in the summer of 2002. A graduate of Lester B. Pearson Catholic High School, Justin is studying electrical engineering at the University of Ottawa.

Francis Mavula, 6-0, 180 lb forward, plays on a full soccer scholarship for the NCAA Division 1 Quinnipiac University Bobcats. Mavula has started every game in his two seasons with the Bobcats. In 2003, he led the Bobcats in points with 14, assists with four and game-winning goals (3), while tying for the team lead in goals with 5. In 2004 he finished second on the team in points with 11. A graduate of St. Patrick's high school in Ottawa, he played his club soccer with the Ottawa Internationals with whom he won an Ontario Cup and was voted Quebec Provincial League Player of the Year.

Desmond Tachie, a 5-8, 165 lb winger joins the Fury after trying out with US Division 1 side Toronto Lynx. Desmond played for the Edmonton Aviators in 2004, Capilano College in 2003 and the Vancouver Selects from 1998-2002. At Capilano College he was a Canadian Colleges and British Columbia Colleges All-Star in 2003 on a team which won the Canadian championship. As a youth player, Desmond played for the British Columbia provincial side and was a two-time provincial champion with the Vancouver Selects.
