Ottawa, Ontario – Canada’s Junior (U17) Team defeated Guatemala 2-0 yesterday in Guatemala with goals scored by Josue Jaramillo and Mario Panizzon.

Jaramillo marked Canada’s first goal in the 17th minute when he beat the Guatemalan goalkeeper with a 30-yard blast.

Guatemala almost tied up the score but missed on a penalty in the 47th minute.

Panizzon scored Canada’s second goal when he capitalized on an Adam Lang cross in the 80th minute.

Canadian midfielder, Selvin (Shane) Lammie had two goals called back in the 10th and 50th minutes.

Canadian goalkeeper Lorenzo Borella earned the shutout.

“Overall we played a good second half, but struggled with the heat and humidity,” said head coach Stephen Hart.

Both teams will meet again on Friday.

Canada is preparing for group B final round CONCACAF Under-17 qualifying where they will compete against Haiti, Honduras, and host Mexico for a place in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru from September 15 – October 2, 2005.
