The Beaver
Women's Under-20 Team Monday, April 11, 2005 Young Canadians Win Two Jodi-Ann Robinson Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Women’s Under-20 team won their last two exhibition matches played while training in Nebraska. The young Canadians defeated the University of Denver Pioneers 2-1 on Friday and continued with a 3-2 win against the University of Nebraska Huskers on Saturday. On Friday, Jodi-Anne Robinson’s goal in the sixth minute kept the Canadians ahead of the Pioneers into the second half when the opponent equalized in the 54th minute. Deanna Everett scored the final goal of the match in the 76th minute for the win. "Following our game against Creighton, the team took a small step forward to get a result in a scrappy game,” said head coach Ian Bridge. “The team shape was good, and there were many positive performances today; however, each player must learn to support her team-mates in all parts of the game. As we move forward, we will all take more responsibility for creating an impact on the game.” The Canadians fell back by two on Saturday against the University of Nebraska after Canadian Women’s World Cup team and former Under-19 team player Brittany Timko scored in the fourth and twenty-fourth minutes. The Canadians returned in the second half with three straight goals; two by Jodi-Anne Robinson in the 66th and 82nd minutes and one by Natalie Martineau in the 71st minute. "A great comeback after two goals by a certain... Timko,” said Bridge. “We outplayed them in the second half, and our team effort rewarded us with three goals. A well deserved victory to finish the camp on, but we need to continue with these kinds of performances."
