Daniel
Will we see 2 or 3 cities in the West? http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=2099 Friday, April 01, 2005 Calgary and Winnipeg Withdraw Their Bid to Host The FIFA World Youth Championship Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) today announced that Calgary and Winnipeg have withdrawn their intent to bid to host venues at the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007. Edmonton and Toronto have already been pre-determined as the two major venues, leaving four venues to be announced on Wednesday, May 4, 2005. In January, the CSA received 11 letters of intent, from 11 cities across Canada, to bid to co-host the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship. The remaining nine cities who have submitted letters of intent to host one of the four remaining venues are Hamilton, Laval, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Vancouver, and Victoria. "The Alberta Soccer Association is disappointed that the Calgary bid will not move forward at this point and time, however looks forward to working closely with the Canadian Soccer Association and key stake holders in the City of Calgary to bring international soccer to their city," said Vern Gerhardt, Executive Director of the Alberta Soccer Association. "The Manitoba Soccer Association is disappointed in having to withdraw from the bidding process. We wish all of the remaining cities all the very best in securing a site for the FIFA World Youth Championship 2007. It will be a tremendous event," indicated Héctor O. Vergara, MSA Chief Administrative Officer.
juaninho
The Winnipeg withdrawal sucks, as I was hoping that the venues would be more spread out across the continent. It may appear that the venues will now be more concentrated rather then dispersed throughout our land.
Cooks
We in Calgary could see the writing on the wall for a little while. Again, the venue question sinks the ship. Oh well, we'll pack a few buses for Edmonton.
loyola
The race for the 4 spot should be between, MTL, Vancouver, Victoria, Quebec City, Ottawa and Hamilton. I think MTL, Van and Ottawa should receive a group and the last one will be between the remaining 3.

QCity officials are clueless and pretty much think they'll just host the thing at the PEPS in its current state. Sherbrooke has a classy stadium, facilities and is a better dark horse. Details in Quebec Soccer.
FC Beast
It's a shame with Winnipeg dropping out, but no one can be surprised with the lack effort from Alberta, Calgary and Edmonton have proven time and again to be soccer death beds in this country and the CSA just just tell them to.....Go to Hell. loyola
Merci Daniel. I thought the Quebec people would be smarter than that, if they think that they can host the event at the Peps without any improvement of the stadium I think they are quite stupid. The problem with Sherby is the city, no one during the summer. Quebec is a better city to receive that kind of event IMO, better than Sherby or Laval, but the stadium issue is quite important. Reza
So what is happening on the stadium front in Toronto btw? Is that stadium being built or will it even be ready by '07? I mean it's not like we got much time till then. Or is Toronto using Skydome with grass?

Yes the stadium is being built, thats the reson we got the Tournament in the first place. And will be ready by 2007. Skydome now known as Rogers Center, has laid new field turf this week for the baseball season. It is the kind that FIFA do approve of.
