2007 : CSA searches event director

The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) is seeking, beginning in June, 2005, the services of a full-time Event Director for the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007.

The FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007 is a three-week long, 6-site, 24-nation, 52-match tournament featuring the best young 20-year-old players in the world. It is the second largest event staged by FIFA after the FIFA World Cup.

Principal Responsibilities:

Plan and implement all aspects of each special event

Development of event critical path

Actively develop and work with working committees, including involvement with each Site

Organizing Committee (SOC), the National Organizing Committee (NOC), and FIFA

Be responsible for budget preparation and all aspects of financial management of each SOC

Excellent working relationships in a volunteer committee environment

Volunteer management, including recruiting, training and supervising special event volunteers

Recruit and train volunteer committees

Securing and managing relationships with event partners, sponsors and suppliers

Development of marketing and PR campaigns

Development of ticket sales plan

Qualifications:

Superior organizational and interpersonal skills

University Degree or College Diploma; preferably in sport management or related field

Ten or more years of event related experience, and hands-on experience in all aspects of event management including event creation, budgeting, sit negotiations, logistics, vendor and on-site management

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team

Excellent time management, verbal and written communication, decision making, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills

Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time and be able to work within tight timelines. Flexibility and problem solving are critical

Oversees all operational aspects of the LOC

Assist in the recruitment of all championship staff members

This position also involves a certain level of business development. Candidate must be able to prepare and "pitch" sponsorship packages to relevant, likeminded brands that are looking to associate with our brand and our brand objectives

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Demonstrated track record of special event management, from planning to on-site execution, to stewardship

Ability to motivate, mentor and develop working committees

Ability to think strategically and creatively

Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Ability to develop a budget, coupled with the ability to diligently analyze and keep within the constraints of a budget

Bilingualism is a major asset

A soccer background would be an asset

The ability to work very flexible hours and to travel extensively is a requirement of this full-time position. This position is a term contract beginning in June 2005 and finishing in August 2007.

How very beurocratic (1980s vintage).

"Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment" ... UGH! Spare me...

I wonder how many weeks it took Mr. Pipe to write that tripe, at his inflated salary.

No wait, he probably hired a management consultant (at six figures) to write it for him.

Budget getting tight? Hey, just cancel a couple of friendlies and make the MNT fly on student standby.
