Bill Ault
Press Release from www.canadakicks.com The Really, Really Unofficial Design the CSA a Logo Contest Ottawa, Ontario – As the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) nears its 100th anniversary, it is embarking on some of the most exciting projects in its history. Some of the current activities and projects include (and are probably limited too): * Having been awarded the hosting rights for the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007 - (Now if we just had some stadiums to play the games in...) * Continued growth in membership, this year, reaching over 825,000 registered participants - (The more the merrier, now if we just had some decent fields for them to play on...) * A mini-soccer program nearing 500,000 attendees, with success solely driven by the local volunteers within clubs across the country (Fabulous all those mini-vans in one place! Now if we just had some fields for them to play on... good thing it is mini soccer we can put more players on less fields...) * Elite Provincial team programs that continue to supply talent to the improving National team programs (which programs would those be? Men's? Women's? U17s?....) * New infrastructure projects, including the construction of a new stadium at York University, as well as several other potential associated projects currently under review (Finally a New Field!! - well maybe the chances look good, shame about the grass though...) As part of our future planning, we have taken the initiative to try and capture some of the energy and enthusiasm that surrounds Canadian soccer through a search to find a new, updated CSA logo. While all would agree that it is important to connect to the past and maintain equity in the current design, it is time to look forward as well. With this direction in mind, CanadaKicks formally invites the Canadian soccer community to participate in the process of helping to generate a new look for the CSA for 2006 and beyond. (and win some prizes). Time The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 1, 2005 at 12 noon ET. So work quick me buckos... Besides that way you can enter the CSA's contest as well - note they don't have prizes though... All submissions should be sent to: The Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee c/o CanadaKicks Soccer 10687 South Branch Rd., Brisnton, ON K0E 1C0 Or even better by email: unofficial_logo@canadakicks.com Who can submit a design? Anyone with a Canadian address is invited to participate. If under the age of 18, a parent or guardian’s signature is required. Please note that no acknowledgement, in any form, can be provided to anyone submitting a design. Well we'll probably send a thank-you email, should take too long to do that. Format of Submissions (A) Print-out - NOT : We've got enough paper floating around the office thanks... ( Electronic file * In JPEG or GIF or EPS or TIFF formats not larger than 8-1/2" x 11" * Must include general description of design in 250 typed words or less (English or French) in a word document * Please send to the following email address: unofficial_logo@canadakicks.com Ownership of entries All designs must be original works of the submitting party. All submitted entries, including the designs, remain property of the owner, although we'd appreciate it if you would let us use it once and a while - especially if it is better than the one the CSA chooses. Process for selection The selection process will run as follows: * The Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee will meet at a local Tim Horton's to review the submissions and create a short-list of less than 50 entries. (Okay 5 but fifty sounds better). * The short-list of 50 entries (or much less) will be reviewed by the CanadaKicks Selection Committee (same guys, same Tim Horton's but now we will be on to our third cup), with absolutely no representation from the Provincial Soccer Associations or any other governing body for that matter. This group will create a short-list of three entries for presentation to the CanadaKicks Board of Directors (once again, same guys, same Tim Horton's but one or two may be in the loo due to caffiene consumption).. * Those who submitted the final three designs will be contacted by the Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee. * These entries will be reviewed, along with two additional designs, which have already been approved for the final selection process. (I'm not sure what is intended here - don't tell me the draw is fixed!! - The Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee has deemed this rule in violation of Fair Play and it will not be used in the Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Contest) * The four final designs will be reviewed by the full CSA Board of Directors at the April 2005 meeting. A final design will then be selected (adjustments and modifications may still be made after this date), although CSA will be under no obligation whatsoever to make any use of such design. (I'm not sure what is intended here - except maybe one more reason to meet - The Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee has deemed this rule in violation of Fair Play and it will not be used in the Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Contest) * The Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee will announce its final selection through canadakicks.com on April 1st, 2005 -- after everyone is done decaffienating.... The terms and conditions outlined herein remain subject to modification without notice. (Now that hardly seems fair...) Compensation As the intent of this process is to include the Canadian soccer community in a fun project, there will be no compensation provided if one of the entries is selected. But unlike the CSA we do have prizes and invite the Canadian Soccer Community to buck up with even more - to donate to this list of prizes please contact the Chairman of the Really, Really Unofficial CSA Logo Design Committee at editor@canadakicks.com. 1st Prize - Premium Subscription to Grassroots Coach Magazine, new Coerver Coaching DVD - "Make Your Move", an authentic CanadaKicks t-shirt, $50 in Canadian Tire Money and a $25 Tim Horton's Gift Certificate. 2nd Prize - An authentic CanadaKicks t-shirt, $25 in Canadian Tire Money and a $10 Tim Horton's Gift Certificate 3rd Prize - An authentic CanadaKicks t-shirt.
