River City
Awesome player, but should've retired internationally before WC 2002 and hung his boots up for good a couple of years ago. Just for the record, I'm a Fiorentina fan from the time I started paying attention to Serie A, and always admired el Angel!
marcl_19
Great Footballer. great striker! been sorta invisible the last couple years in qatar but even so, I dont htink he should have quit internationally b4 WC02. He beat out crespo for the starting spot and scored a beauty header goal vs Nigeria.

I had my money on Argentina in 2002 and I'm still a little miffed at Bielsa and his overreliance on the aging Batigol. IMO, Batistuta was never the same after he picked up his injury during Fiorentina's Scudetto chase in 99.
River City
From www.goal.com Batistuta Hoping For Fiorentina Return 3/16/2005 10:53:00 AM The recently retired Gabriel Batistuta is hoping to take the next step in his football career with former club Fiorentina. The Argentine spent nine years with the Tuscany outfit, and his representative Aloisio said: "Gabriel wants to start a new career and there is already a verbal understanding with Fiorentina. "Now it is up to them to decide whether they want to maintain that promise. "Roma? That will be impossible while Franco Sensi still owns the club. The two men see life differently."
