Rocket Robin
and this story would never make the Toronto Star... and what about the complainers who whine that Lynx never resign their stars? TORONTO LYNX MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LYNX RE-SIGN RECORD SETTING STRIKER! Tuesday, March 8, 2005 (TORONTO, ON) - The Toronto Lynx have re-signed star Canadian striker, Ali Gerba for the 2005 season. After setting club records with 15 goals and 34 points and earning the "Lynx Most Valuable Player Award" in 2004, Gerba will be hoping that his personal achievements will translate into team success in 2005. Gerba is entering his 4th season with the Lynx and has been the team's leader in goals and points in each of his two full seasons in Toronto. New Lynx head coach, Hubert Busby Jr. made it a priority to re-sign the high-scoring striker from Montreal upon his appointment in January and will be expecting another outstanding season from Gerba. "Ali had a very productive season last year," explains Busby. "Not only will I be expecting him to spearhead our attack, but I will also be expecting him to provide leadership. Ali will be asked to lead by example." Last year, Gerba finished 3rd in League scoring, becoming the first Lynx player to finish in the League's top 10, earned 3 A-League Team of the Week Selections and was named an A-League Second Team All-star. His blend of size, strength, speed and ability on the ball make Gerba a threat every time he touches the ball and one of the most exciting players in the USL First Division. Gerba and his teammates kicked their pre-season training yesterday at Soccerworld @ the Docks in preparation for their season opener on April 23rd in Portland. The Toronto Lynx will kick off their season on the road again on Saturday April 23rd going out west to take on the Portland Timbers and the Vancouver Whitecaps. Soccer fans will have to wait until Sunday May 15th at 4:00 to catch the first home game of the season when the Lynx welcome the defending champion Montreal Impact at Centennial Park Stadium. The theme for the home opener is "A new tradition" capturing the spirit of soccer fans coming out to witness and enjoy both the highest level of men's professional soccer and female soccer in Canada. Robin, the correct word is "re-sign". I corrected the thread title, because it was misleading.
