Silvio
Ok, ok... HDC is nicer by far than York will ever be. And it's a SSS. But HDC was built with the national program in mind, as York will be. I just saw this on the net, and I wonder if York will likewise be passed over for meaningful games once the 07WYC is over.... Wednesday is SoCal Friendly Night Two international friendlies in the Southern California area Wednesday night should give the soccer-loving resident plenty to do. Mexico will take on Argentina at the L.A. Coliseum, while the U.S. will play host to Colombia at Titan Stadium, home of Cal State Fullerton. All fine and good but the question goes begging, why is the Home Depot Center lying empty when four National Teams are playing elsewhere nearby. So far, the U.S. Men have played only one measly, instantly forgettable friendly well over a year ago (a 1-1 draw with Denmark) and none of their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers are scheduled there. Granted, the facility will be in heavy use once MLS season starts, with two clubs calling it home, but the so-called 'Cathedral of American Soccer' is feeling more and more like the 'Cathedral of American Soccer Training Camps.' Cheeta
Must be nice to have all those stadium options in one city. Don't think York will have to worry about the competition but I guess we'll see once new plastic goes down at Skydome. That and Vancouver winters being what they are compared to Ontario. But that's just a Canadian reality.
redhat
How can you compare something that hasn't been built yet? When York is built, and filled with supporters, I'm sure York will be comparable. But until it's built, the real live thing will always be better than a bunch of drawings. As for the usage after WYC2007, I'm not sure the CSA will pass over a stadium in the calibre of Saprissa Stadium (Costa Rica) in Canada's largest city. But your concern is valid. As for "competition" with a field turf Skydome, has anyone considered the costs of having an event at SkyDome? Bloody expensive at most and prohibitive at least. You'll need an attendance of over 20,000 to make money and many soccer events (unlike Champions League) will not attract more than that AND make money. Moosehead
I think people are basing it on what the stadium will be when built based on the plans. Also, people though are unclear on exactly how the stadium will turn out. It seems clear that it will be FieldTurf surface and based on the drawings it will have a distinctive Argos feel to it with the all blue seating. Will there be Argo logos stiched into the FieldTurf and distintive Agros look in the concourse area, time will tell. Will there be telescopic seating behind the nets, does anyone know. Saprissa is a Fieldturf surface but it is definately a dedicated soccer facility. quote:Originally posted by redhat As for the usage after WYC2007, I'm not sure the CSA will pass over a stadium in the calibre of Saprissa Stadium (Costa Rica) in Canada's largest city.
