Guest Ed
Huge games this weekend for several Canucks in Germany. In the Bundesliga, Paul Stalteri and Werder Bremen hope to repeat on last season as they visit Munich to take on leaders Bayern Munich. Bayern has looked very good lately, demolishing Freiburg 7-0 in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday. Werder Bremen have been doing well domestically despite their loss to Lyon in the Champions League. A win would put Paul's team just one point behind Bayern; a loss would basically end their title hopes leaving them 7 points behind. Julian de Guzman and Hannover 96 hope to turn things around this Saturday. Back to back losses to Schalke 04 leaves the team with only 1 win in the new year. They have a lightweight opponent this weekend though as Hansa Rostock come to town. Per Mertesacker and Michael Tarnat are back on defense so a win is likely. Tam Nsaliwa and 1.FC Saarbruecken visit Bundesliga 2 league leaders 1.FC Koeln on Monday after having their game postponed this past weekend. The winter has been harsh on the lower leagues with most games cancelled both last and this weekend. Maycoll Canizales spent the past few days with a few other amateurs training with the Hannover 96 senior squad. Nik Ledgerwood and the 1860 Muenchen amateurs play an exhibition game tomorrow against an Oberliga team.

James
Ed, do you know how close Ledgerwood is to becoming a first team player? I've checked an 1860 board but I can't read the german. I know that he's been playing midfield for the amatuers but he's also played fullback, correct? Seems that like most of the canucks in germany, he's pretty versatile(maybe it's a common German strategy to play the young guys all over the place)I'd love to see him crack the first team. In midfield or in the back would be fine too, especially considering how shallow the national team is at fullback. Thanks for any info.
Ivan
In an interview after the U20 WC qualifying, either Mitchell or Yallop (cannot remember which) stated that Ledgerwood was 1-2 years away from a callup to the full national team and will go on to a long national team career. He was the only one mentioned specifically in that light.
Guest Ed
Both Canucks in the Bundesliga 1 lose 1-0 today. Bayern Munich scored early and held on to put Werder Bremen in serious jeopardy of not repeating as champs. Hansa Rostock steal the win in Hannover. Julian de Guzman and Paul Stalteri go 90 minutes for their clubs.
