What is there to negotiate. They are not rookies at this. They have negotiated many times before. It would be more honest to simply say, we will air it provided we get the lions' share. They know well what the audience response is. I sent my email as well (a corteous one).

The game is on at 3:30pm eastern time. Sportsnet has NCAA bsketball on ntheir schedules right now.

Well, there you go. It would be madness to pre-empt the airing of a foreign nation's amateur sporting event in order to show your own country's national team play one of the world's most accomplished teams in the most popular sport on earth.

Actually it is March madness and I'll bet the NCAA games get a lot of viewers. I have a crappy feeling about this.

That so many Canadians watch US college sports is very hard to understand and a national embarrassment. It shows how far American marketing has penetrated into our media to the point of creating a monopoly on our market. The level of play in either college basketball or football is quite poor. Even the better teams when compared to the pro level would be similar to 5th or 6th division teams in soccer. It would be like thousands of Canadians tuning in to watch Conference and below Conference level English soccer. I can understand watching something like that if you are from the community but why a bunch of amateurs playing for universities in Nebraska and Iowa would interest anyone in Canada is beyond me. It is one thing to watch the NBA which is the world's top basketball league but an entirely different thing to watch foreign amateur youth leagues. If we can't see our national team because of something like this we should seriously consider complaining to the CRTC and local MPs.
