Elias
I think there is a very serious problem with the server. People think of and type very funny one liners, but the server must ruin them or something. []
Guest Dave
Not really a server problem per se, but related to the move to the new server: The CSA Site has not updated their link to the Voyageurs as yet; it still points to the old site. Probably several other soccer sites have likewise not yet updated the link. I suggest: 1. sending an email to all our linked soccer organizations asking them to update the link to the Voyageurs site. 2. if possible having the front page of the old site include a temporary link to the new site. jonovision
Perhaps this is unrelated, but is the board making the threshold for creating a new page for a thread lower? Perhaps it is my imagination, but the Granddaddy... thread is 19 pages long, and unless I am imagining things, it was 10 or so earlier today. Jarrek
The posts per page were reduced from 30 to 15 in order to speed up access.
beachesl
Jarrek, quick question, do long threads with multiple pages cause access problems like they do with some forums like bigsoccer?
Jarrek
Of course. Anything that's really long will cause problems. But the 12 or so page Grandfather thread is tiny compare to some other ones I have seen.
sstackho
The server just became horrible. Out of commission for about 15 minutes. Pages not loading, and occasionally error messages like this: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113' Script timed out /forum/topic.asp The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools
Jarrek
Some things have to be further weaked around with the server. I'm looking into it, because the forum is running on a dedicated server and problems like this should not be happening. It's causing only the process to come to a crawl, the connectivity is ok. matthew
Just to carry on the serves in match talk. My computer crashed at half time and it took me about 18 minutes to log in to obtain the link to the feed. I think posted just after the goal and then spent more than 15 minutes unable to get beyond the 'thank you for your post' page. I had no trouble Wednesday, but this was worse than anything I've had before even if I did have an occassional server unavailable. I like the idea of a chat during matches. Does anyone really care is this kind of silliness isn't saved forever? I mean the pbp thread is always locked right after anyway. cheers, matthew
Guest Dave
Jarrek, I appreciate your effort in trying to improve things... but is there any way you can temporarily reactivate the old server, so we won't have this problem for the Jamaica game? Tonight I was unable to read the board for most of the 2nd half, which greatly diminished my enjoyment of a great win by Canada
Jarrek
Hi Dave, Unfortunately there isn't a way to reactivate the old board. By Sunday, hopefully I will speed this one up or resolve the issues why it's choking up.
sstackho
I got this error when trying to Reply with Quote: ADODB.Field error '800a0bcd' Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record. /forum/post.asp, line
DJT
I wouldn't want the old forum back -- some people used to get "service unavailable" only temporarily, but most of the time it would stay that way for me for the rest of the match! I've actually had better luck with this server. A chat really is the way to go, even if the problems with this server/forum can be fixed. Forums are inherently not designed for real-time discussions, that's what chats are for. And at the end we can save the entire chat and post it for those who weren't there and for posterity. Jarrek
DJT, I totally agree. We should look at getting Chat Software or using an external chat server. Nonetheless I will look at speeding the server up.
