Guest Jeffery S.
This is a big signing for Spanish women's soccer, with only a few foreigners on the squads of teams. Dominguéz has signed for the rest of the season for FC Barcelona, playing in the top flight Superliga Femenina, but running dead last with a win in 16 games. Her contribution may not be enough: they lost last weekend to Seville side Hispalis 8-0. Has been a big news story in Spain, especially after her name came up with the attempt by Celaya to sign her for the men's squad. She will not receive a salary, but gets an apartment, food and per diems. This FCB web article exaggerates her level (most press reports here put her in the top 10 of world female players), but it is sure this will raise the profile of a game that gets a few hundred out in top flight matches, with a few exceptions (Bilbao has actually filled the main stadium for key matches, and can get a few thousand upon occasion for a match. http://www.fcbarcelona.com/eng/noticias/noticias/n05012313.shtml
Guest Jeffery S.
Maribel plays her first game for the last place team, and they win 5-0 over Torrejon, a challenger for the title, with three from the Mexican striker. Today's total is 25% of all the goals they have put in all year. Makes you wonder if maybe some players without teams in Canada couldn't at least get an interesting experience finding a team in a lively European league, whether getting paid a lot or not.
