Blue and White Army
Bilingual. Fair enough, I suppose, but they might as well just state "if you're not from Quebec, Ontario or the Maritimes, you need not apply". [}] Vive le Bloc BC!
redhat
Sounds like a dream job for a few talented voyageurs. beachesl, you interested? as for the bilingual issue, Canada IS a bilingual nation ...
The Ref
They don't say if this is a new position or if someone got canned. Those applying keep this in mind. From the brief description of duties it involves a great deal of clerical website work. To me the CSA need more of Media Promotion. And I am not talking about updating a website contents but rather being out there amongst the media tycoons promoting soccer, its players, its programs and its games. Hard to do sitting at a desk all day banging away on a keyboard.
The Beaver
Damn, that sounds like a near-perfect job for me. Too bad my French sucks ass. (I couldn't even come up with a French equivalent for "sucks ass.") Yeah, I'm sure some Voyageur here could have a good shot at this. Damn, why didn't my dad teach me French? (Why didn't I ask?) Daniel
Damn, this is my job in a few years . And I know some people from Alberta and Saskatchewan who speak French!

Yeah, I'd love a job like that, but am only semi-bilingual in French now. We need somebody who already has strong national media skills and contacts in both cultures. Gordon
I wonder if this is/was Richard Ivan's position, possibly modified somewhat. I was having some communications with him in December when all of a sudden my e-mails came back as undeliverable. Since it was a civil discussion, I can't imagine I was being blocked . I was wondering if he left.
Daniel
Stéphane Banfi seems to have left his Media Relations and Communications post here in Montréal. PS: He was a dick if you weren't mainstream media.
matthew
Yeah the fransascoise population in Sask isn't bad and I work with someone from northern Alta. who is francophone. Her husband is francophone and my boses' wife is also francophone and that's just in Moose Jaw. Manitoba has a lot of francophones as well (like Rejean Beauchemin). My French was pretty solid both orally and written 10 years ago and I could certainly function as billingual if I had to deal with the francophone media. That being said if I had to say write half of a match program in French, I'd say I'm not qualified to do that. Which is too bad because I think I'm fairly qualified otherwise. I might e-mail and see if my bilingual chops will cut the moutarde. Thanks for posting this canadiankick97. cheers, matthew
Free kick
Yeah it would be a perfect job wouldn't it. Unless I am mistaken, I don't think that I saw any mention that you must be able to write proficiently in both languages. I am sure that the CSA like most organizations use outsourced translators for written communiqués. But I would imagine that fluency in verbal communication is important. BTW does anyone know if Morgan was bilingual? I think that if you have the media background, then you would probably be ahead of anyone who is bilingual but is lacking in this area. Just image, you could construct the perfect candidate for this position by taping from the skills of various voyageurs on this board. There are voyageurs who: 1) have experience in the media. 2) Can write proficiantly 3) are bilingual 4) have a passion for the game. 5) have no objections to the travel schedule 6) and who enjoy writing game reports But the truth is that you seldom find the perfect candidate ( who has all the skills) for any job. Therefore, you should go for it.
redhat
Voyageurs should just go for it. The people on this board seem to be more attuned to Canadian soccer than the CSA and would be more of a benefit. Didn't the Voyageurs know about the status of most MNT players, CONCACAF opponents, or even a few professional players that we discovered with ties to Canada? We need people on the inside so that we get better respect and treatment from the CSA people. And provide advantages that only the CSA can dream of. Ya beachesl, matthew, Daniel, beav, etc. go for it!
The Beaver
Truth be told, I am still quietly hoping that the Voyageurs (or various individuals from this forum) could join forces to do some good for Canadian soccer. I think a position like the one posted poses real limitations for what I'd liked to do, and I am positive that we have the connections, skills, talents and ideas to make a real impact. The Voyageur site, for instance, could become an even stronger force, offering more services, information etc in many areas. Plus, I am in the process of launching a new company--not soccer related at all--and that will take up a good chunk of my time these next several forevers. (I have a very strong background in book and magazine publishing, writing and editing, leadership and management. I sort of fear some of my strengths would be lost on a position like this. Still, the chance to be involved and SEE all those games live would kick ass!!) I seriously encourage you guys who are interested to give this a shot. You'll have to move to Ottawa, but that ain't so bad at all.
The Ref
Just imagine a Voyageur in the CSA! That will kick ass. I wish I was younger. With present day technology and many people working from home this job could easely be done from anywhere. Residing in Vancouver could even be better as many of our national games are here anyway. Let us not forget that the women side is now all centralized in Vancouver. Doesn't Yallop live in Vancouver as well? On a different subject I read on the paper today that the Whitecaps wil be playing in a stronger US league which includes a team from Puerto Rico. Swangard fans should be thrilled. analyst
Refs first post on this thread was insightful - the person needs to schmooze with the media people to get more coverage. That means spending lots of time in Toronto and Montreal. In a past life, I was involved in a National Organization which had a media person who had an entertainment budget to take media people out to lunch regularly to establish friendships with reporters and editors and get good stories. He got us lots of good publicity.

The Ref
I guess Elaine must have applied for the job. Too bad eh Elaine. On the other hand what a colossal screw-up in the CSA. Typical I guess of the CSA, nothing is serious with them. How can anybody be so dumm.

(plus I'm not bilingual.) One of the CSA interns emailed me to post the job oppotunity at my site yesterday -- before I could get around to doing it, she emailed me back with that this morning.
