A couple of weeks ago I was watching a match where the ball was actually travelling towards the goal when it was slightly deflected by a defender and they ruled it an own-goal. So how does this goal get awarded to Gerrard when the ball was drifting wide before the defender headed it in-to his own goal? Seems like a random ruling. Annoying as hell! The awarding of goals vs own goals does seem rather indiscriminate as does offsides and the calling of fouls. I somehow seem to tolerate it though. Maybe it's the anal approach to getting calls right that the NFL puts us through that makes me appreciate that having a referee crew on the field who makes a call and that's it,rather than ......hey,whoa,stop everything let's review that call. Go get a beer or a hot dog we'll get back to you and we'll question the zebras on the field that we pay and show the world we don't trust their call making. How'd you get to see that game anyways ? Blue and White Army
I don't know if you could consider that an own goal, seeing as it would have been a goal anyay had Neil Cox not been there to help accidentally head it in.

The replays I saw showed fairly clearly that the ball was going wide. But if they don't use replays when determining who should get awarded the goal then I can understand them giving the goal to Gerrard. quote:Originally posted by Blue and White Army How'd you get to see that game anyways ? Well, the game was on either Setanta PPV or Setanta pub. I forget which cuz I didn't see it, just saw the goal on highlight-shows like 100 times.
