Maradona plans Napoli party Sunday 9 January, 2005

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Diego Armando Maradona has announced plans to stage a testimonial match at Napoli’s Stadio San Paolo on October 30.

“Diego has decided,” said manager Ricardo Fuica. “He wants to play his farewell football game at the San Paolo on his birthday, October 30.”

The Argentine has been beset by health issues since leaving the club, as his weight spiralled out of control and he was hospitalised for drug rehabilitation and heart problems.

Nonetheless, he wishes to salute the supporters – whose once great club is now in Serie C1 – in the Stadium that treated him as a God.

“We spoke about it over the Christmas holidays and he wants to set up a squad from the 1988-89 Scudetto-winning Napoli squad,” continued Fuica. “The opposition side would be players who faced Diego and Napoli in that era.”

The revelations came at the opening of a new museum dedicated to Maradona in Naples, run by his ex-wife Claudia Villafane.

“He is eager to visit the archive of materials and then come to Naples in order to play football here one last time.”

It Would be an interesting match, only if these players haven't lost any skills. I mean, even when we watch old timers hockey, the greatest players play, but yet, the game is ..welll.. |-) kinda boring. SO im not sure if this is something everybody would want to see.. Im certian the napoli fans will fill the stands, cause maradona was the greatest. For anybody who never saw any of his goals, check out this link http://www.vivadiego.com/argmov.html
