It has been mentioned but it is worth noting that the decision was made when they were under the leadership of an interim manager (Mick Harford). Since then, Harford's been sacked and replaced by Gary Megson.

I wonder: a)who made the decision to not sign DeRo, B)would Megson have been interested in him, c)has De Rosario gone over to Europe with specific contractual demands (since, from my understanding, he has been offered another contract by San Jose) with which Nottingham may not have been interested.

As for the last point, he's probably in a pretty good bargaining position.

Good point, he doesn't have to go begging because San Jose are quite keen on him returning, particularly considering Ching is the only returnee among forwards at this time with Donovan in Germany, Jamil Walker with Chivas USA and Chris Brown gonzo.

DeRo doesn't have to worry about things and can essentially look for the good opportunity. Plus, it must take the pressure off whereas he can relax and just show the clubs what he has. If they like it, great! If not, he's still likely got a job.

I think DeRo isn't right for England anyway. It’s easily to get lost in the English divisions. It seems lately that Canucks have been able to achieve more in leagues out side of GB. I would like to see him in Italy or Spain. Even Portugal, France or Belgium might be good moves if opportunities present them selves. As for staying put in San Jose, that’s cool also. However he is getting older and I’m sure he would like to test himself across the pond before his window of opportunity passes. Not to mention the paycheck would be nice.

Denis, what you say has great validity. Problem is that I know that Yallop has been encouraging as many Canadians as possible to play in England, any level, and De Ro may feel, because he does feel so strongly about playing for Canada in that idealistic way of his, that he should try to get a place there. Best of luck to him though. I think given his character, as well as his style, he would have a huge blast playing in a latin country.

Galaxy receive Dunivant, Cronin

Associated Press

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes acquired forward Alejandro Moreno and defender Chris Aloisi from the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday in exchange for defender Todd Dunivant and goalkeeper Steve Cronin.

The teams also traded picks in the first round of this year's draft, with San Jose now owning the sixth selection in the first round and the Galaxy getting the fifth pick.

Moreno has 12 goals and six assists for 30 career points in three MLS seasons. He had six goals last season, including his first hat trick on May 19 against D.C. United.

Aloisi started three games for the Galaxy as a rookie last season.

Dunivant spent the past two seasons with San Jose, getting a goal and six assists. Cronin didn't appear in a game for the Earthquakes last season after being selected in the 2004 draft.

Moreno is a Venezuelan international...one less foreign attacking position for De Ro to fill now on the Quakes. However, with Ladon Donovan going to germany, there may still be a need for him.
