This years edition of the Worlds U-17 hockey challenge will see 4 Canadian teams in the finals. To be played to-day Jan 4th Ontario plays Atlantic in the bronze medal game and Pacific plays West for the gold.

Other teams in the tourney were Quebec, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Finland, and the USA.

EDIT:

Pacific is players from BC, Alberta, Yukon & NWT.

West is players from Saskatchewan, Manitoba & Nunavat.

Ontario, Ontario.

Quebec, Quebec.

Atlantic is players from Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI, New Brunswick, & Nova Scotia.

I'm thinkin' it'd be sweet if one of these days there can be a Team North : Yukon, NWT, Nunavat, & Labrador.Even if Labrador is part of Newfoundland it should be included in TEAM NORTH. Oh heck just put the whole province of Newfoundland & Labrador in TEAM NORTH.

Newfoundland is more north than Maritime anyways. [}:)] The island has caribou and miles of barrens with 200 year old 2 foot tall trees.;)

Newfoundland may have more in common with Greenland and Iceland than many parts of Canada.

I actually wound up following this and the Mac's Midget tourney more closely than the WJHC in ND. Well done to the Western boys. Roland Duplessis got some stick for some of the selections, but this was a darn good team. Congrats to Atlantic for their first medal in a nice performance.

argh1, as far as I know northern areas aren't involved in any of the provincial top-40 or top-80 camps, so I don't know how any elite player in one of those regions would get identified. Of course except Geofff Sanderson and Jordin Tootoo I can't think of anyone of note from the north anyway.

cheers,

matthew
