argh1
They have a new rink and a new team in the ECHL but checking game sheets I see the attendance has yet to break the 3,000 mark or is the Save-On-Foods Centre not open yet?

BC supporter
The team apparently sold 3,000+ season tickets for the begining of the season, but completion of the new arena (the 7,000-seat Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre) is running way behind schedule and is now not scheduled to open until the end of March. The ECHL team is playing all its games this season at the Bear Mountain Arena (approx. 2,750 capacity), where there have been a couple sellouts. First events set for the new arena: a Rod Stewart concert, two Sarah McLachlan concerts, and the Ford men's world curling championships. http://www.saveonfoodscentre.com/
BC supporter
A couple additional points re: Victoria Salmon Kings. The team opened the 2004/05 season with 14 road games to allow completion of the new downtown arena. Several thousand season tickets were sold. But, as mentioned, the new building is way behind schedule and as a result there will be no hockey games in it this season. As for Bear Mountain, which is also a new building (2003) and home to the BCHL's Victoria Salsa, the capacity of 2,750 includes only 2,350 seats. The rest is standing room and sold only after reserved seating is filled. Personally, I'm not a big hockey fan so am not interested in driving out to the western communities to stand for a couple hours; but I will go to the new arena next season to check out a game.
