Daily Sun reports that Leeds has made an offer for Pesch that may be accepted. Another latreral for the small supersub with a big heart?

Isn't it odd that teams he's been with in the past (Birmingham City, West Brom, and Fulham) are now in the Prem?

A step up in team size and name but a step down in current playing level. Leeds is currently bottom third in the Championship and only 5 points out of relegation. A relegation might send the team into bankruptcy. They are probably in need of a striker and with their financial situation I don't think they would bid for Pesch if they weren't planning to play him.

The current manager at Leeds is Kevin Blackwell, who was Neil Warnock's number 2 at Sheffield until Leeds lured him away to be #2 in the Premiership. Blackwell has always been a fan of Pesch and has said he should of started more at Sheffield. Leeds have the basis for a good team but have financial troubles, injuries, and a lack of confidence. There was rumours earlier in the season when Pesch was barely involved at all about a loan deal to Leeds but George Burley wouldnt let him go. Now he is more involved and scoring goals, and has a formed a good partnership with Rasiak who says he prefers to play with Pesch. I doubt George Burley would le his "lethal sub" go at this point in time unless the bid is more than reasonable. the director of football also said this was "wide of the mark" what ever that means. So we will have to wait and see. This weekends big derby between County and Forest may be a big factor to whether he stays or goes. Pesch has stated his desire to start more, or at lest be given more of a chance. After scoring last weekend, and saving a point, one would feel he should be given a chance to start that along with his good goal scroing record against forest. like last years derby scoring 2 goals with the coffee cup incident, and the playoff semi finals with Sheffield. If he is kept on the sidelines he might look for a move but if he keeps scoring it doesnt make sense why they would let him go.

Looks like Derby have no intentions to sell Pesch. and interesting article on his career form basically saying that he is more than a supersub and an asset to the club.

Derby County striker Paul Peschisolido is proof that labels can stick in football.

He is recognised as a super sub but is not keen on the tag and it's easy to see why.

Statistics show the Canadian international is almost four times more likely to score if he starts rather than coming off the bench.

In 270 League starts, Peschisolido has scored 95 League goals - one every 2.8 games.

In 108 appearances as substitute, he has scored 10 - one every 10.8 games.

So the super sub label, or "lethal sub" as Rams manager George Burley called the player last week, is not strictly accurate.

Peschisolido once scored a hat-trick as sub for West Bromwich Albion against Bury in September 1997 but the first came after 10 minutes.

And all three of his goals for Derby this season have come as a sub, against Rotherham United, Watford and Coventry City.

But the 33-year-old has clearly been much more than a super sub during his 12-year career in English football. His goals to starts ratio is very healthy.

The four he scored in his first three games after signing from Sheffield United in March played a big part in saving the Rams from relegation last season.

He has found himself back on the bench for most of this season, a role he thought he had left behind at Bramall Lane.

However, his involvement has increased in the last eight games, four of which he has started.

When Peschisolido is a substitute, it is not just about whether or not he can come on and grab a goal. He is also capable of sparking the team, providing he is on the pitch long enough to make an impact.

Earlier this season, he was deeply frustrated at being handed only a few minutes here and there. The chances of a player affecting the game are dramatically reduced in such circumstances.

When he was handed a full half against Rotherham in October and 35 minutes at Watford last month, he made a significant contribution.

He injected much-needed urgency, scored on both occasions and unsettled defenders.

Peschisolido has spoken to the manager about his role this season and Burley says the player is an important member of his squad.

"I know Paul does not like the super sub tag and wants to start every game and I can understand that," said Burley.

"What we have to do is utilise him in the best possible way for the good of the team. Sometimes that will mean starting, other times he will be on the bench."

Peschisolido may not remember too much about English football's prototype super sub, David Fairclough.

The flame-haired striker was renowned for his memorable scoring exploits after stepping off the bench for Liverpool in the 70s.

His most famous strike as a sub came in March 1977 when, with time running out, he went on and scored the winner against French side St Etienne in a European Cup quarter-final.

He also came off the bench a year earlier to beat six Everton defenders before firing past goalkeeper Dai Davies to win the Merseyside derby at Anfield.

Fairclough could boast a healthy record of 55 goals in 153 senior games for Liverpool, with 61 of his appearances coming as a sub.

Like Peschisolido, Fairclough did not welcome the super sub tag but a stack of winners' medals including two Championships and a European Cup made it rather easier for him to bear.

*Thats not to mention out of 15 cup goals Paul's scored, 12 goals have been from 38 starts and 3 from 12 substitute appearances.

*120 goals in English football 107 from starts 13 from subs.
