Guest Ed
Hannover 96 host Hertha Berlin this Saturday to end the first half of the season. Julian de Guzman will likely start although the coach has been taking it easy with him as he has had some nagging injuries. He saw a specialist in Munich last week for some back problem. Hertha Berlin are coming off two wins in a row but coach Lienen is expecting his defence to step up for this game. Hannover are currently in 4th place and could move into 3rd place over the break if leaders Bayern Munich beat VfB Stuttgart. Paul Stalteri and Werder Bremen sit in 5th place and should have 3 points this weekend with 1.FC Kaiserslautern visiting. Tam Nsaliwa and 1.FC Saarbruecken end the first half of the Bundesliga 2 season with a local derby vs hosts Eintracht Trier, just up the road from Saarbruecken on the Mosel. JUST IN!! Maycoll Canizales is training with 1.FC Saarbruecken this week. He is under contract with Hannover 96 so I don't know if they are looking for a loan deal or an outright transfer come the new year. If he impresses, it could be a good place to get playing time (unlikely to see time with his senior club as they are doing so well). Clint Mathis is 95% sure to return to the USA over the Christmas break. In the Regional League South, Nik Ledgerwood is off on break now until February but promising to see his name among a list of young U23 players in a fan poll at the 1860 site asking which young star will be the next to break into the full team. Guest Ed
My mistake. Nik Ledgerwood and 1860 Munchen are in action tomorrow in the Regional League South as they are away to Stuttgarter Kickers, the original club of Jurgen Klinnsman. Guest Ed
Julian de Guzman has a couple of chances after Hertha Berlin go ahead 1-0 today and then Hannover 96 feel they are robbed in injury time as Mertesacker's header is called off due to a foul on the Hertha Berlin keeper. Hannover 96 drop to 6th place as Hertha Berlin move to 5th as a result. It's off to Spain for training camp in the new year for Julian de Guzman and Hannover. Paul Stalteri will have an extended break as he sees his second yellow as Werder Bremen have a disappoining 1-1 draw with 1.FC Kaiserslautern today. The mid-week game against Valencia took its toll as Bremen are without Baumann, Jensen and Micoud to start the game. The point is enough to keep Werder Bremen in 4th place at the half way mark of the season, with VfL Wolfsburg threatening to knock them down to 5th place with a win tomorrow. Guest Ed
A big point today for Nik Ledgerwood and 1860 Muenchen amateurs as they have to dress 3 U19 players yet manage to draw 0:0 with Stuttgarter Kickers in the Regional League South. They enter the winter break in 12th place.
Grizzly
Nsaliwa plays 90 as Saarbrucken is defeated 2-1 by Trier. The Saarbrucken goal resulted from a Nsaliwa cross and he seems to have been one of the most offensively active players despite being a back. Guest Ed
Victor Oppong enters the winter break on a high, as his team SV Waldhof Mannheim win the local derby with VfR Mannheim 1-0 in the Oberliga Baden-Wuerttemburg.
Guest Ed
Werder Bremen and Paul Stalteri will be in Antalya, Turkey once again for their January training camp and will have a couple of friendlies against Turkish clubs, Fenerbahce and Trabonzpur. Julian de Guzman and Hannover 96 will be roughing it in Spain at Jerez de la Frontera. To add to Grizzly's news that Clint Mathis will be returning to the USA, it should be noted that the MLS is actually paying 6 figures to bring him back to ReAl Salt Lake. Also, Hannover 96 and ReAl Salt Lake have entered into some sort of cooperative agreement.
