The MLS is out of our league, in more ways than one. Sure Toronto can meet the entry requirements, soon they will have a soccer stadium and there's always money to be had in HogTown. Just because we can (yes Toronto is a we) should we? How is Canada fairring in longterm survival in the North American sport's markets? Vancouver has lost Grizzly Bears, Montreal has been Expoed, while Winnipeg and Quebec have been sacrilegiously dehockeyed. Has enough time lasped to erase the NASL from the memories of soccer's financial backers in Canada? What soccer doesn't need in this country is another failed pro-soccer attempt. Mr. Pipe, let me ask you; "How many Canadian would be on a competitive Toronto MLS roster? Operating an MLS team in Toronto is buying a business in a foreign market, which hires few Canadian. It's similar the a US auto-manufacturer setting up shop in Canada and hiring non-Canadian labour to operate its concern. What's in it for Canada, Kevan?

It all hinges on one question: Is MLS a better league than the ones in Scandinavia where our current generation of young talent has gone to learn their trade? Does it pay more? Will it be a faster route to the big money leagues? Will it develop a player's skills better?

The only thing I can see in favour of MLS is that it's on this side of the Atlantic.

We will wait and see ......in the last A-League ......USL Division 1 off season there were rumours of Ottawa, Hamilton, and even Winnipeg joining. Mean while Calgary and Edmonton failed. Any MLS foray into Canada is 2 years away.

Sometimes I feel our (soccer fans) want of pro soccer is ahead of reality. I've decided to take a wait and see attitude and see where those with the actual loonies and toonies to invest in pro soccer will take us.

Speculation is fun but sadly not reality.

When I first moved to Vancouver in 1993, I joined someone for dinner at a downtown restaurant. We were the only customers there that evening and a few months later it closed. Since that time there have been 8 other restaurants that have come and gone at that same location. Each time, the new owners got suckered into opening up a restaurant here. Great location to make money (only for the landlord of course) they were told. Nine owner's dreams ended there. Their own fault of course, for if they had done their homework they'd still have their money. None of them will probably ever open up a restaurant again. The same holds true for people interested in investing into Canadian soccer. Kevan Pipe is milking this for all it's worth. Why? $$$$! Where is he going to be a few years down the road when the MLS circus leaves Toronto (this is assuming that Toronto even gets a franchise)?
