hottoddy7
I know Hume is still quite young but after a couple of non-finishes in qualifying I was starting to wonder if he is going to be the goal scorer he is hyped to be. He only has six goals in nineteen appearances this year in league one. Perhaps tranmere are not a real attacking team I don't know, (anyone know their style?). But if he isn't our striker of the future(not saying for sure he isn't) who is our best pair?

So how many do you reckon he should have by now? 6 is not too shabby, especially considering he's a slow starter. I think he'll look good with Occean once they have a few games under their belts. hottoddy7
Well I'm not sure how many he should have by now but i think it should be more. I was thinking that maybe dero and occean is our best pair with hume on the wing.
youllneverwalkalone
I believe Hume's Tranmere totals are impacted by the fact that he spends some time on the wing. I wouldn't have a problem with that role on the MNT. Especially if the RW choice was Hume or Derosario. What about getting De Guzman Jr. his cap? Or giving Rob Friend a chance? Wilfrid Laurier
My impression from reading Tranmere match reports this year is that Hume is playing up front almost exclusively but that recently (the last month or so) he's been involved in setting up goals and team play more than finishing them. Cheeta
I could see that. He's so quick to move the ball (with quality) off that right foot of his it's hard not to utilise him as a delivery man. If he's the best at it, can give you something no one else on your squad can, and will make everbody else that sooo much more effective because of it then he goes from finisher to delivery man. If that is the case, and Ian's okay with it then he'll certainly not be our future goal king. If he's not okay with that sort of role (if it's occuring) then it's time to shop around for more agreeable climes. I'm quite sure under Yallop everything will be slanted to providing for Dwayne. Not so sure if Hume would be an effective partner for him though.
Gordon
Hume has been involved in setting up a good deal of Tranmere goals as well as leading the team in scoring this year. By all accounts, Tranmere's best offensive player this year. His totals are not as high as his talent would seem to indicate as apparently he does not score many "tap-ins". Is this something that gets learned with experience or does he lack the scorers instinct to go with his prodigious talent?
Cheeta
Seen a show years ago where Plantini essentialy said that as he got closer to goal, it just seemed to shrink on him. Found himself lost in the territory close to crease. Rush probably would've asked him how he can see the goal from way back there. Must be boggling to see the lad hit a one time cracker from outside the box and then follow up by shanking a dead sitter from two yards out. Then again though, the net is only 24 foot wide... I like Hume, he has skill, always plays for Canada, and runs himself ragged... ps- Hume has 7 goals in 22 apps for tranmere this year. leads team

I saw one game at Tranmere this year, vs. Swindon. He played dead centre and was mostly in the middle droppìng back to offer himself to the midfielders and playmaking well from that spot. Rarely went to the wing. With the other strikers who are usually taller and more physical (forget the better one, the other is Dadi) he is a good complement, kind of like Radz when he was teamed up with Koller. I agree that 6 goals is not a lot in the games he's had, but if you look at the side the goal scoring is very well shared, midfielders and even defenders in there. The team is very balanced, does not only rely on their strikers getting a good ball, and builds the attack from the back well enough that a mid can get into a spot for a good shot. And remember this team, with Hume generally considered the best talent on it, is on track for promotion.
hottoddy7
I wasn't meaning to disparage Hume he is very talented and has scored some great goals from time to time, I was just wondering aloud if he is the answer to our goalscoring problems. I certainly hope that he is. I was also wondering do any of you know where Bernier plays in midfield for his club side, and whether josh simpson plays more on the wing or at the back. David C.
I have been wondering if Hume might be the answer to our longtime quest for a proper offensive playmaker, which I consider a more important position than striker. Considering his great ball handling and distribution skills, along with his long-range scoring abilities, he seems perfect for the role to me. Seeing Iain in the hole, behind a striker pairing of Radzinski and DeRosario, would have been my wish this past summer. Looking ahead, if you were to insert Occean in place of (a soon to retire) Radzinski, we could have a pretty good offensive trio going here. BrennanFan
Looking ahead to WCQ 2010, it seems to me like Hume and Occean will be our best pair up front. Outside of DeRo (who might be too old by then to start), and McKenna (who will probably play D), who are our other options? On this board ive heard of guys like Ali Gerba, and Dylan Hughes (i think thats his name). are these guys realistic options?
