Rupert
A good read in the newspaper I used to work for, The Independent. Some of you who came to Edinburgh a couple of years ago will have met the author, Phil Shaw. He had a few beers with us the night before the game. Gian-Luca
Yes I remember Phil well. He couldn't understand why Holger had stopped using Corazzin, if I recall correctly......
RS
"We were playing Plymouth next. They had a Canadian international, Carlo Corazzin, who asked if I fancied playing for them. I said I wasn't sure. He said the next game was Barbados away. I said, 'Go on then'." Classic.

Guest Ed
quote:Originally posted by canso which Guatemala game is he talking about? Canada played Guatemala twice in June 1999, shortly after Holger's (and Bircham's) debut vs Northern Ireland. They played a very unfriendly friendly (de Vos got a lugee in the face from some Guat player) in Toronto prior to the Canada Cup in Edmonton (Canada, Iran, Ecuador and Brazil (oops I mean Guatemala). Bircham must have rankled some Guats in the first game as there was a story of death threats prior to the game in Edmonton.
redhat
Not to bring up a sore point, the Guat games with Holger were in addition to the GC qualifying games against Haiti, as well as a closed-door match with Saudi Arabia in LA. I think these games really helped our GC2000 preparations, and of course the ensuing championship. I'm surprised that the CSA didn't follow a similar route during this WCQ. Maybe it's time for the CSA to revive the Canada Cup tourney as part of its GC prep. And too bad Bircham was not used as much during this WCQ... Ed, didn't Ecuador replace Brazil, rather than the Guats?
