RS
I just read somewhere that Dwayne is now out-of-contract at San Jose. Does he re-up with MLS? (no doubt for more money) Or does he go on trial in Europe somewhere? (probably with Ipswich and Millwall, since they seem to love Canadians these days, and Millwall needs a striker pretty badly ) I remember that he was supposed to go on trial with Nottingham Forest in January of 2003, but that's when he got injured training with the MNT for the 'B' team match vs. the US. I hope DeRo keeps his options open as he is still a fairly young talent with enormous upside (when played in the right position). That said, San Jose will be pretty desperate to keep him, as Landon Donovan is already in Germany with Leverkusen (even though he can't play for them until January). The Earthquakes will be pretty thin up top with Lando gone, so Dwayne's value just immediately went up.
bettermirror
i think he needs to play in a less direct type league than england. i think he would do well in a country like spain, turkey, greece, italy, or maybe even germany. i think he'd be wasted in england as his style is not suited for it. ochico
The new partners of the Lynx are trying to sign him. Relax, I'm joking I hope everyone knows that he did play for the Lynx, previously.
Winnipeg Fury
Time to leave MLS. His playing time was diminished in MLS this year and he could make more $$ in Europe as well as have more opportunity. He's not getting any younger and if he ever wants to play in Europe at a good level, now is the time.
Bertuzzi44
I say stay in the MLS. with donovan gone DeRo will get more playing time, and if he stays in north american at least he won't be 'jet-lagged' like everyone else who gets called up for the nat team. plus, the MLS is a good league (competition wise)
Grizzly
Considering we are not going to have any important MNT games for the next four years I doubt trying to avoid jet lag will be much of a priority for DeRo. Considering his playing time has never reflected his performance and he would be able to have better coaching, better development, more opportunity, a better playing level and more money elsewhere I think he should try Europe if he has the opportunity. Since he is out of season while most of Europe is in season there is no reason he could not get some trials.
RJB
No matter who you are, as a professional, you have to try to play at the highest level possible. For Dwayne, and anyone else for that matter, they can't make club decisions based on how well it would suit the Mens National Team. If he can play in Europe, he must ensure it's the highest level that he is capable of.
nolando
I think after all these ratrher successful years in both NA leagues, including winning championships, he must be thinking, like many of us, that it's time to give a crack at Europe while he's still young enough to improve and flourish. nolando
...in fact, I would even go as far as to say that if he's in soccer mostly for the money he'll stay in the MLS, and if he's in soccer for the soccer, then he will definitely try and take a step up to Europe. Given his MNT commitment, I have no doubt that he DD in soccer for the soccer, without question. He could always play five years abroad, and come back to to North America for a couple years before retiring if he has financial concerns. It doesn't work the other way around (ie. retiring to Europe for his last years), and with time on his side, I think he surely knows the time is now. Winnipeg Fury
DD would make much more in Europe than MLS. I believe his salary is 70,000 US per season. He would probably double that playing in Norway's Tippiligaen, and could play at a level similar to MLS. He would also have the advantage of possible European Cup play. If he was in the English First Division (just for comparison sake), he would make a lot more than that.
Cheeta
Think it's a good point, if a bit of a generalization, about DD going to England. May not be the best matchup for the man, many of the English clubs. Especially in the lower divisions given his style of play. You'll notice I'm assuming DD should quit MLS. Bit overdue almost. Guest Ed
I don't know but I doubt there's many countries in Europe aside from England where he can get veggie roti!! Not a lot of Caribbean cuisine in Germany anyway. There's something to be said for the MLS on the life style side.

I remember that Dwayne had a frustrating time with trials in Germany and may have issues with his UK status. I doubt Germany, but if it's England it'll probably be ... wait for it ... Ipswich or Millwall.

canso
San Jose is about to be moved to San Antonio under Mexican ownership. Doubt if they'll want to keep him regardless of how he feels about it.

I think england would be perfect for DeRo, it shouldn`t be a question of going to a league that suits your style of play, because if you can go to a league where you can easily stand out with your style of play then it would be easier to succeed and of course to attract bigger teams that always love "different" players. C`mon with a little bit of skill anyone can do well in ENgland. In life (and in soccer), if you do things differently than most people, then you`ll always be considered as unique and will always be wanted because everyone hates monotony.....at least I do!! I'll never question any-ones choices he'll do what he feels is right for himself given the opportunities and offers . After all he's the one that has to live with the choice. But do you really think the style of play still differs that much in Europe ? I watch alot of English and French league play and both can be phyisical or technical given the teams .
