argh1
I know not big news Canadian Junior Football League . But as the attendance was 4300 at Commonwealth would any of the Edmonton guys like to share if this was well promoted and if any interest was shown in the community towards this event ? Quebec Junior Football League ( which doesn't belong to the CJFL? )is in play-offs now (?) . Just wondering about national interest in junior 3 down football ? Wow Ottawa has 3 junior teams the Jr. Riders in the CJFL (OFC) and the Sooners and the Cumberland Panthers in the QJFL Ottawa must be a football hotbed ! The reason I ask is there's supposed to be a Maritime Jr. Football League next year starting rumours that the champion will play the Q league winner for an Eastern Canadian championship? EDIT: And .....totally unrelated but..... the QMJHL has agreed to add expansion teams in Saint John (to be owned by a McCain family member and an Irving family member owns the Moncton team & Halifax was owned by the Olands of Moosehead Breweries before selling to a group headed by former NHLer Bobby Smith) & St.John's . I'm sure these cities won't miss the carpet beggars of the AHL anymore than Moncton, Halifax, Charlottetown or Sydney . The Q is with-out question much more entertaining than the A will ever hope to be IMO . It seems Atlantic sports (of all kinds) is tying itself more to Quebec sports all the time . Gordon
quote:Originally posted by argh1 I know not big news Canadian Junior Football League . Its big news any time a junior team from the Prairies not based in Saskatoon or Regina wins anything. Marginally less so, I suppose, now that Regina Rams turned themselves into a university team and the new Regina team is no longer on the radar for Saskatchewan High School players. Congrats to the Edmonton Huskies - hell has indeed frozen over [}]
matthew
Congrats to the Huskies who are no longer a joke. The PJFL was getting to be a one-horse league, so its nice to see the Toppers lose and someone else give them a challenge this year. The Prairie Thunder are definitely on a lot of HS kids' radar around here. That doesn't mean that too many go there. I'm seeing more and more HS kids head to BC (and even a couple went to Calgary this year) for junior football rather than play in Regina. And no I don't want to talk about the Rams-Huskies game. In fact I'm pretending the whole season never happened. Congrats Gordon, that's all I've got to say cheers, matthew
beachesl
Can somebody explain to someone who has been out of Canada for most of the last decade how we ended up with the CJFL and the Quebec Junior Football League? How did they decide who played in the "Canada Bowl" if there are three conferences (Prairies, BC and Ontario)? Thanks, I'm so confused. I'm not a big football fan, but have been to a few Huskies and Sooners (Mooney's Bay!) games over the various years.
DoyleG
The game did get some promo in the press in the leading up. I went to the game and did enjoy it even if it cost me $20 for a ticket. The Huskies were at their peak as many of the players have been together for 5 years. Oh Gordon, you guys had your fun. Now it's your turn to be our bitch.
