Porthmadog's pitch was declared playable this week - only after a gaggle of marauding Canadian geese finally took flight from the club's Y Traeth ground.

Last Saturday's reserve team game with Llangefni was postponed after the geese scoured the playing surface in search of food and left the grass torn up over a wide area.

Part of a goamouth was worst affected with the ground pecked away where the birds - which have a wingspan of five feet - had hunted for worms.

Club general secretary Gerallt Owen said: "The groundsmen replaced the divots and placed a mesh over the affected area to try and keep the birds off.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't cover the whole pitch and simply kept our fingers crossed that the geese would quickly depart.

"Thankfully they did and we were able to do some running repairs throughout the week."
