ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) - Fans of soccer club Dinamo Zagreb invaded a training session and stripped the team's players of their jerseys, claiming they were not worthy of representing its colours, police said Tuesday.

About 50 fans, wearing masks over their heads, ran onto the pitch late Monday and demanded the jerseys, saying they would be returned once the players showed they deserve them in future matches, police said in a statement.

The jerseys were handed over without resistance.

None of the players or coaching staff wanted to comment on the incident.

Dinamo, one of the country's most decorated clubs, is off to a poor start to the season, languishing near the relegation zone in eighth place with 14 points. League leader Inter has 22.

Dinamo already has fired its first coach of the season, and there have been increasing calls for the management board to collectively resign.

No way. Our players can't be faulted for our WCQ demise. They gave it

their all.

You're going to be the guy to take the jersey from Jason de Vos or

Paul Stalteri or even Mark Watson? No efn' way.

If you however propose to rip the CSA blazers off the current CSA brass, BE MY GUEST.;)

Its tough to go counter to your view since it would considered slagging. But IMO winning in sports is so much more than than just effort and commitment. Plus opposing teams can also have an abundance of that as well. But no athlete is equal in ability to another athlete and although effort and commitment are important, there are many more intangibles that also count. Such creativity, fitness, imagination and confidence. This is a team game afterall and I agree that its not fair to heep all the blame on the players. But by the same token its not fair to entirely exonerate them either and heep all the blame on third parties ( ie.: coaches, FA's, officiating). The game is played on the pitch afterall. There are examples of extremely talented teams that can overcome all kinds adversity ( eg.: poor preparation, organization etc) to still succeed.

While its hard to single out anyone in particular for consistant poor play, its even harder to find someone who consistanly caught my attention over 5 games. What surprised me was the strong play by a latecommer like Grande yet some of the more highly touted younger players didn't impress me as much. I think that that has alot to do with expectations.

Speaking of CSA blazers, I was amazed at the dozen and a half CSA blazer types (and I'm not talking about the ones that had actual positions and work like Vince, the Director of Competition) walking around at the U-18's Clubs Tournament earlier this month observing something or another. I wonder how much these types of junkets cost added up over the course of a year?

I would imagine that several of those Blazers belonged to CSA board members from the various provincial associations. Frankly if Saskatchewan's Pres. was there on the SSA's dollar, I am not too concerned since it is one of the 2 or 3 biggies as far as the provincial associations are concerned. Seems like he should be there.

It's okay to have expectations, and as fans we all do.

But to force players to surrender their jerseys is insulting. Sure

we're not that great a team. But to react that way is extreme.

It's like saying some of our Olympians are losers because they

didn't win the gold. And I assume some in our board feel and would react that way.

But what do these guys owe us anyways? I'm not saying some of these

players have no blame at all. But the fact that they sacrifice

and fall short of their goal is punishment enough.

This is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own.

You have no arguments from me on this. I am not appluading the conduct of those Croatians. I more reponding to a sense I got ( maybe incorrectly) that the players themselves and entirely exonerated from the fact that Canada didn't qualify. The game afterall is played on the pitch.
