Ian Kennett
Just back from the game, the third Canadian WCQ game from which I have left the stadium early. Reason Number One - Pat Onstad's brutal goalkeeping which we cannot have any more at this level. Devos looked gutted after that goal, and the team deflated and began to chase the game. Reason Number Two - Frank Yallop's change of game plan and terrible substitutions. He removed a lively and dangerous Iain Hume and replaced him with a slow and ineffective Carlo Corrazin. Hume hung his head and sat utterly dejected on the bench. This move visibly destroyed the team chemistry as Canada reverted to long balls looking for Corrazin who was always a step behind the play. Reason Number Three - Using Jamie Peters as a sub instead of Josh Simpson. Peters was completely ineffective and Yallop has placed far to much faith in him at such a young age. Reason Number Four - Weak finishing. While Canada completely dominated the first half, we failed to score on several great chances. The game should have been won handily by halftime. I left early, and I am beyond disgusted. I feel indiffernt which is much worse! The future? So long Onstad, Corrazin, Watson, and ??? Cheers!
