sstackho Posted October 6, 2004 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Canada moves up to No. 95 in FIFA men's world soccer rankings posted October 6 @ 9:42, EST ZURICH (CP) - Canada moved up four places to No. 95 in the world soccer rankings released Wednesday by FIFA. The Canadian men are sandwiched between Indonesia and Vietnam. Honduras, Canada's opponent Saturday in World Cup qualifying, dropped eight places to No. 53 while Costa Rica, whom Canada faces Oct. 13 in Burnaby, B.C., rose one spot to No. 32. Guatemala, the other team in Canada's group in the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying, jumped three places to No. 61. Canada stands ninth among CONCACAF countries, vaulting past Haiti. Brazil remains atop the standings, with France No. 2. Argentina moves to No. 3 with Spain falling to No. 4. The Dutch jump one spot to No. 5, at the expense of the Czech Republic. England is seventh, followed by Portugal (up three) and Italy (up one) in a tie for eighth and Mexico (down two) at No. 10. The team of the month was Israel, which jumped 13 places to No. 56 after defeating Russia and tying France. Slovenia (No. 57, up 14) also enjoyed a profitable month.
