Stalteri played 90 as Bremen defeated Leverkusen 3-2 in the German Cup. Hannover defeated Cottbus on penalty shots but DeGuzman did not play.

Looking at results from last weekend, Nsaliwa is playing as a central defender for Saarbrucken. Could he be the solution for our difficulties at this position?

BRIAN LITTLE felt his side never got the rub of the green to overcome Premiership opposition.

"We didn"t really get any controversial decisions to wind Portsmouth up, "" he said. "It needed something controversial to knock them out of their stride.

"Just before they scored I thought there was a foul on Gareth Roberts in the far corner which was not given.

"We tried hard without creating the chances we needed. We were very unlucky to lose. ""

Little started with Iain Hume and Paul Hall playing off central striker Eugene Dadi, without much success.

"We had a game plan to keep it tight in the first half and see how we could progress, "" explained the manager. "We changed it at halftime, with Iain pushing forward more.

"We tried to up the tempo of the game in the second half, which we did to an extent. Both sides would have expected one goal would have won the game and that"s how it turned out.

"We conducted ourselves very well against a Premiership side.

"Ryan Taylor and Iain Hume showed at 19 and 20-years-old that they have a chance to play against people of Portsmouth"s standard. ""

The game was played without fans in the Vasilikou ground, perhaps they had problems last cup match last year?

See the comments from Daniel's coach, where he was disappointed in the attitude with the exception of a few players, I think a lot of regular subs did not impress him. But as Dani stopped a few chances (I read three at least here) and got the shutout with an "indifferent" team around him, I think his trainer must be pleased with him after playing him in a match that was not critical considering the first leg result.

If Daniel is going to get playing time -and I would not be surprised if he did- we are going to have to consider that he has taken a leap on our depth chart and should be considered for the senior nats, maybe coming into Gold Cup qualifying. After November the only top Canadian keepers that might be active will be him and Lars.

MILLWALL 3 DERBY 1

DENNIS WISE helped set up Millwall for their first win in four games last night with a quick-fire free-kick at The Den.

Wise stepped up and caught out keeper Lee Camp by bending the ball low round the wall and into the bottom corner when Camp was expecting a cross to the far post.

Spirited Derby were hit when centre-half Michael Johnson limped off seven minutes before half-time to be replaced by Adam Bolder.

And late in the game left-back Jamie Vincent was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Three minutes into the second half Millwall made it two when Canadian winger Josh Simpson used his pace and slipped the ball past Camp from Neil Harris's through-ball.

But within a minute Derby were back in it when Vincent's pass was gathered by German striker Marco Reich, who turned inside and drilled in at the near post.

Millwall added a third with the last kick of the match when Paul Ifill latched on to another Harris pass and beat Camp.

Fernando Aguiar played the entire match for Penafiel as they tied Rio Ave 1-1 today in Portugal. This was Penafiel's first point of the season.

Daniel Imhof was subbed off after only 15 minutes in St. Gallen's 3-1 win over Arbedo in Swiss Cup action. I hope Daniel isn't seriously injured.

..daniel seems to be ok, he played 90min on wednesday against servette genf (1-1). st.gallen has quite some problems with lots of injured players (3 of 4 forwards injured..).
