Guest Ed
He emphatically stated that it was all about WCQ when he took over. He was instrumental in firing Holger and hiring Yallop. Do the honourable thing please. The CSA make Swim Canada look like world beaters.
Luis_Rancagua
Ed!!!!!!! I was thinking the same thing. In fact, the minute that Sharpe took over the presidency of the CSA, he immediately architected the the killing of the CUSL by introducing the MLS option. Even Gerry Gentile, through an e-mail, has told me that Sharpe was no friend of the CUSL, and that the CUSL will not see another day under the Sharpe presidency. Sharpe and Pipe (both these individuals) have also abandoned their commitments to the Open-Cup concept, and the idea was no longer brought forward at any CSA meetings. Furthermore, Sharpe forced Holger Osiek to quit by bringing Yallop. What a huge ******* mess!!!! This man has failed in his projections, and for this reason both Sharpe and Pipe should both tender their resignations.
Cheeta
What? And find a real job? The second New Varsity got approval, by hook or crook, the CSA's dynamic duo got their legacy. A monument to the success which is the CSA master plan, whatever that is, and the men at the helm steering the good ship CSA. And don't forget all the millions they've saved the organization over the years by under funding/budgeting the MNT program. Thank goodness we may not have to pay to fly the lads back and forward over the Atlantic again next year. God only knows where the money for that would be found. Like hell they'll quit. Maybe the next player mutiny (if it realy happened) should take aim a little higher up the CSA food chain. Now that would get some media attention. Moosehead
Andy Sharpe is a volunteer who is elected for a 2 year term. The man who runs everything and controls the allocation of spending is Kevan Pipe. He is been in charge since 1986. One needs to hold a Canadian Soccer investigation (like the directors of swimming Canada are doing) and find out what we need to be doing. We also need to change the people at the top. We need someone with vision for the program and understands how elite athletes work and put a plan in place, i.e. someone who understands the effects of jet lag on an athletes performance and how this could impact our wcqc. I just doesn't look good to the top man in charge whose been at it for 16 years and Canada has failed to qualify for a world cup during the administration. We also need to determine a proper structure for soccer. A smaller 6 person board of directors that would then hire the appropriate officers would be appropriate. It doesn't have to be like the senate of canada and have directors from each province. The directors would be voted in by the soccer members themselves, the soccer members would be the shareholders. It doesn't make sense to have a 2 year elected volunteer president and then a full time unelected COO.
Cheeta
What we need is a seperate entity for the senior international programs and professional level of football. Would still have to be under the CSA umbrella of course. FIFA wouldn't let it be any other way. But please God, an arms length organization. Will that ever happen? Nope. 'cause money talks... soccerbeast
Sharpe and Pipe are not the ones to blame, Frank Yallop is, he can't this team out of reverse. By continuing to use players like Radz, he has given up. Lets get our u-20 squad in there for the last 3 games to get experience, cause Germany 2006 is long gone folks. redhat
We're gonna blame Andy Sharpe? Frank Yallop? Morgan Quarry? Team Doctor Gupta? Who's next? C'mon boys, asking for some form of audit or accountability is one thing, asking for their removal because of injuries and the Jazic backpass is ridiculous. I agree with a lot of what you guys say, it's just that blaming Andy Sharpe isn't one of them.

Soccerbeast, I disagree with you completely with your point. Pipe and Sharpe are surely to be blame for this fiasco. As for Sharpe, I blame this guy for killing the idea of the CUSL back in 2003, further with the collapse of the open-cup tournament of which he terminated. These were a big mistakes, and they are now coming back to haunt him.

Time for new blood, new ideas and a new direction if we hope to see the Hex again, let alone the fricking world cup... if you havn't noticed everyone in our region is passing us. Canuck Oranje
I have been critical of the CSA in the past for many poorly handled initiatives. I think they can do better in getting sponsorships. I think they should be more professional in their approaches to government. Their marketing is not very good (just get information up to date would be a start). But the performance of the national team is something that will take time. The reality is that Sharpe is a volunteer elected to the Board of the CSA and then President. The only thing this Board can be held accountable for is their decisions related to Pipe and the proposals he brings forward. I suppose the Board needs to approve major expenditures and hirings. Even if the Board now reviews the performance of Pipe, it does not solve the immediate problem. That is the restricted budget. The problem is that there is little or no money. Going to government will not work (at least not very quickly). Asking the recreational youth system to kick up even more money for the CSA is not a solution either (how many times can you milk a cash cow?). Redirecting more money to the national teams is not really an option because there isn't much money to redirect. At the end of the day, the CSA needs to develop more revenue sources. More Sponsors. Better marketing leading to better attendance. Working with government with a view to partnering (ie. cost sharing on improving existing programs) rather than simply asking for more money without offering any real value to government in return. The CSA also needs to work more and better with some of its recognized stars (younger is better because they have more to gain)to build the system because in the end, they will benefit too. Ask them to volunteer time to participate in gaining sponsorships or to promote the sport to local clubs or through a marketing campaign. I don't think that is asking too much. I'm sure we have some interesting personalities to draw from. Players need to recognize they are not professional hockey players and their own sport still is developing in this country. Bottomline is handing out pink slips wildly will not solve anything. However, the right people need to be held accountable for the CSA's inability to grow with the sport. The question is does the volunteer Board of Directors have the stomach to do what needs to be done? I don't know. As for Yallop, let him continue for now. I think we need more time to see what he can do. Besides maybe we will be able to afford better in 3 years if we need to change.

But the fact remains we have enough talent on this side to get past the Guatemala'a,Costa Rica's &Honduras but the manager has failed to get the team organized, their failure to play attack football instead of their defend at all costs attitude, has cost us not only a place in the next round, but has setback this program at least a decade. Yallop shoul;d be removed now, Dale Mitchell, Paul James, could take over for the short term till a European or South American or even Asian Boss could be brought in. Lets get a league going and leave an open cup till the league gets going and stable. Lets get more national team games per season 10 - 15 at the very least. No more games at Edmonton's commongrave stadium, move the games around the country.

Don't forget our region is football-mad, and that soccer is the first or second sport that comes into their minds. Not in Canada, nor do we have the money that the US have. I agree for the advocacy of a new direction; however any changes will take longer than 2 years ... Now again, why blame Sharpe? Because of the CUSL? There's alot more to that story than Andy Sharpe. I agree with a lot of what you guys say, it's just that blaming Andy Sharpe isn't one of them. Why can't people see that Canada isn't losing "because of injuries and the Jazic backpass"? Those are simple excuses that don't stand up to the reality of the situation. We face the same issues year after year after year after year. They've been discussed ad nauseum on this site and elsewhere. The one common thread through years of failure is Kevan Pipe. Whatever he's doing clearly isn't working. It's time for him to step aside and let someone else have a go. p.s. Yes, that's Kevan with an 'a'.
