Winnipeg Fury
This match was being advertised as live on digital cable (which I have), but it is being advertised by Shaw as being shown at 01:00 AM Thursday (local Peg time) throughout all 4 Sportsnet regions. When I called Shaw, they said they couldn't find anything about it being shown live ?

I simply do not trust Sportsnet to air these games as listed. Can anybody confirm?
Winnipeg Fury
I have Sportsnet Pacific, and they don't have it listed until (on digital), 11:00 PM Pacific, 01:00 AM local time. It shows as being televised across Canada at the same time.
redhat
It is live on Sportsnet West at 8 or 9 PM (Can't remember which is which, based on the commercial). If it's Sportsnet Pacific at 7pm, that's live!
MikeD
If you have digital cable you can watch it live. It's on Sportsnet West digital (which is not the same thing as Sportsnet West - as I understand it, you have to have digital cable to watch the match live even if you live in the Sportsnet West region.) Hey that's true. But if you have digital cable or SATELLITE, and have subscribed to all Sportsnet channels, you're set! That's why I haven't switched to MTS Digital from Star Choice. redhat
Shaw's useless. I think since you have DIGITAL CABLE, you'd be okay. I think it's at 9 PM CST (which is 8PM Mountain). Customer service wouldn't know as they'd be confused with "football" and CFL on Sportsnet.
Rivaldo
quote:Originally posted by redhat Shaw's useless. I think since you have DIGITAL CABLE, you'd be okay. It's listed on the Sportsnet site at 8 pm MT (which is 8 pm CST for us in Saskatchewan and 9 pm CDT in Manitoba) on Sportsnet East. http://www2.sportsnet.ca/tvschedule/tvsked_sport.php?region=WEST&schedule_id=7 It doesn't surprise me that the program guide doesn't show it when they program events on digital only beacause it's on a different channel in every region. If Shaw has to flip a switch to make this game available, I'm nervous.
canuck-fan
Shaw has the game listed at 11:00 on Sportsnet for Vancouver audiences. Interestingly, it also lists the match as "live". Sportsnet also lists the gametime as 11:00 pm, but says nothing about it being live.
bettermirror
ya, the game is 11 p.m. pacific standard time.
The Beaver
quote:Originally posted by bettermirror ya, the game is 11 p.m. pacific standard time. Okay, so to be clear, if you live in Vancouver and want to watch the game on regular Sportsnet, you must do so at 11pm. Otherwise, you must find a digital Sportsnet broadcast for the Pacific region to watch it live at 7pm? Is this correct? )The Beaver is confused.([?]
Natesta
It is not live in any of the regions because of the Oh so exciting Toronto-Anaheim baseball game that starts at 10EST, 7PST. And you just know that snoozefest it going to go to extra innings, thus bumbping the soccer game further back. Bollocks.

marktci
Posted this on another thread, but bears repeating here: To try and offer some clarity to the proceedings, there are four Sportsnet Regions (Atlantic, Ontario, West, Pacific). The schedule of each region is a little different. Here is my read on what is happening in each region on Wednesday the 8th (all times in Eastern Time Zone): Sportsnet East 7 pm to 10 pm - Devil Rays and Yankees 10 to Midnight - Canada vs Costa Rica Midnight to 1 am - Blue Jays vs Anaheim (tape delayed) Sportsnet Ontario 7 pm to 10 pm - Miscellaneous stuff 10 pm to 1 am - Blue Jays vs Anaheim 1 am to 2 am - Sportnet News 2 am to 4 am - Canada vs Costa Rica Sportsnet West 7 pm to 10 pm - Miscellaneous stuff 10 pm to midnight - Canada vs Costa Rica Midnight to 1 am - Blue Jays vs Anaheim (tape delayed) Sportsnet Pacific 7 pm to 10 pm - Miscellaneous stuff 10 pm to 1 am - Blue Jays vs Anaheim 1 am to 2 am - Sportnet News 2 am to 4 am - Canada vs Costa Rica If you want to watch the game live and you have all 4, watch it on West. There is no chance of the prior program running late. Hope this sufficiently muddies the waters.
strobe_z
I just talked to Shaw to add the Sportsnet package to my digital bundle. The cool thing is that I've only added it for 3 days... 1/10th of the $2 a month is what they're gonna charge me. First nice thing... I don't have to pay for the other 27 days of Bass fishing and Darts Championships.

Cheeta
Okay, got an e-mail from SportsNet and as I read it you must have digital to get the match live. If you just have SportsNet on your regular cable you'll be forced to watch the Jays game no matter what your region. The digital feeds to other regions will be modified to carry the Canada-Costa Rica match live. So someone in Vancouver with regular SportsNet will be forced to watch the baseball game but someone getting the SportsNet Pacific feed in Halifax would see the football match live. Wheh. Quite clever actualy, if a bit confussing. Or I could be reading it wrong.
DJT
OK, let me try to straighten this out. Essentially there are 8 Sportsnet feeds: - Sportsnet East Local - Sportsnet East Digital - Sportsnet Ontario Local - Sportsnet Ontario Digital - Sportsnet West Local - Sportsnet West Digital - Sportsnet Pacific Local - Sportsnet Pacific Digital Any single person can receive only 4 of these: your own region's local feed and the other three regions' digital feeds. Costa Rica vs. Canada will be broadcast live on Sportsnet East Digital (not the same as Sportsnet East Local!!!) and Sportsnet West Digital (not the same as Sportsnet West Local!!!) . This means that if you are in the Pacific or Ontario regions you have two choices because you receive both of these feeds, but if you are in the West or East regions then you have only one choice. As long as Sportsnet does not screw up, nothing will interfere with the live soccer game, so it doesn't matter which of Sportsnet Digital East and Sportsnet Digital West you watch. If you want to see a schedule of what you can watch, when on Sportsnet's schedule page you have to make sure that you have selected the correct region at the top (the "Switch Regions" box). What will be displayed will be your own region's local feed and the other three regions' digital feeds. What you see for the other three regions is not necessarily what people in those regions are receiving!!! Rather, it is only what you are receiving on those digital feeds. Does this make sense? If Sportsnet would make better use of their digital feeds they could be sure that when they have rights to two different events they could show both live. Apparently they want to do this more and more. This would encourage people to subscribe to their digital channels. And then people would get used to the idea and it wouldn't be so confusing. By the way, everyone, what's happening here is exactly what happened with the Germany vs. Canada friendly last year, if you recall. And there was all sorts of confusion then as well.
