Things aren't so bleak

Team MP W D L GF GA Pts

Guatemala 2 2 0 0 4 1 6

Honduras 2 1 1 0 6 3 4

Canada 2 0 1 1 1 3 1

Costa Rica 2 0 0 2 3 7 0

Things don't look so bleak as they seem. As tough as it may seem, if we can grab 3pts away on Wednesday, that'll give us 4 pts, and put us right back in the hunt, no matter what Honduras and Guatemala do to each other.

It's great to see Costa Rica out of the hunt early too considering they were the group favorite. You have to figure they get things together here soon (but hopefully not too soon !!!!) and even things out with a victory against honduras or guatemala the second leg,, when things are all said and done , this could be one very close group separated by a couple points...

This is definitely far from over. Unfortunately, the schedule might work to our disadvantage. If we go undefeated against Costa Rica in the next two games (which we almost need to do), Costa Rica will be more or less eliminated. They may then field a weaker team in their final two games, giving Guatemala and Honduras more points.

We gotta take full points from one of Guatemala or Honduras in any event. I think we have to assume that Costa Rica goes pointless and see how it plays out. If we assume a split between Guatemala and Honduras - 3 points each, then the max for Honduras is 10 points (excluding the Canada game) and the max for Guatemala is 12 points (excluding Canada game). Canada would be sitting at 7, assuming a sweep of Costa Rica, with the ability to tie Honduras with an away win, and go ahead with a result in Guatemala. So while we are better off with some Costa Rican results against the other Central American teams, we are not sunk if Costa Rica mails in their performances (assuming we sweep them of course). In any event, we need a minimum of 6 points on the road in order to have a chance to qualify, in addition to winning our last home game.

We're exactly where I thought we would be at this point! No really, I felt we would struggle at home with a new team coming together and let's face it, we don't really have a strong home field advantage, but we would then take the four points from the Hondurans and beat los Ticos at home to set up a must win for the last game away to Guatemala.
