Natesta
Okay, basically looking at the situation the way it stands now... lets see the scenerios that get us into the hex. Current standings MP W D L GF GA Pts Guatemala 2 2 0 0 4 1 6 Honduras 2 1 1 0 6 3 4 Canada 2 0 1 1 1 3 1 Costa Rica 2 0 0 2 3 7 0 Games remaining 17-Nov-2004 In Honduras Honduras - Costa Rica 17-Nov-2004 In Guatemala Guatemala - Canada 13-Oct-2004 GUATEMALA-CITY (Guatemala) Guatemala - Honduras 13-Oct-2004 VANCOUVER (Canada) Canada - Costa Rica 09-Oct-2004 SAN JOSE (Costa Rica) Costa Rica - Guatemala 09-Oct-2004 SAN PEDRO SULA (Honduras) Honduras - Canada 08-Sep-2004 SAN JOSE (Costa Rica) Costa Rica - Canada 08-Sep-2004 SAN PEDRO SULA (Honduras) Honduras - Guatemala The situation isn't as final as some people like to believe... these teams are beatable at home, and most all of our players are used to playing in a hostile environment, so that will not be an issue, as for field conditions, I seriously dount they can be in any worse shape than Commonwealth last night, so our team could actually be in for an improvement. If we win our game at home as well as beating the teams that we lost points to at home, it should be enough to get us into the next round. Call me an optomist, but on any given day I truly believe our team has more than enough talent and ability to beat anyone else in our group. Honduras and Guatamala still have 2 games to play eachother and one of the two will fall off, we simply have to be there to pick up the slack. 10 points should do it, we're just going to be making it to the hex in a more exciting fashion. One large bonus we do have on Wednesday is our boys should be completely over the effects of jet lag by them. I still feel we're going to qualify.. I really do. Vancouver Fan
A win against Costa Rica is a must of course. That will keep us from sliding out of it all together. Also, scenarios where 2pts instead of 3(ties)are shared in matches not involving Canada are advantageous. I'd like to see us get into a position where 3 pts.against Guatemala in the final game would put us through. That means that we'll have to at least move to within 2 pts of second place by the time game 6 is played.Right now we are 3 pts behind second with 4 games remaining. To stay mathematically in it we'll have to narrow the gap between 3rd and 2nd by 1 pt in the next 3 games. nolando
I wonder if we should rooting for Guatemala to clear the table from the point on, except of course against us in Guatemala. Then we catch Honduras for second after we beat CR on Wednesday. God I don't want to see which squad is angrier on Wednesday. Can you imagine the World Cup team who lost two straight playing our badly ripped off boys. Damn will we have a game!!!
intrepid_
Whoever wins on Wednesday (Guatemala or Honduras) we should be cheering for to clear the table (obviously not against us).
nutmeg
I echo the sentiments that we are not dead yet. Cheer for the Guats, let them go top, and us fight it out for second. This is all contigent on us winning on the 8th, which isn't completely unreasonable.
