So which kind of democracy will we follow?

I HOPE AT SOME POINT HE JUST GETS IT.

If he and I ever met I'd force him to have a Salty Dog with me and after that we'd either get along or I'd join the lynch mob.

PLEASE CHANGE MY VOTE TO ABSTAIN!

Sincerly,

Dave

What democracy are we to follow?. It should be a majority vote which is very difficult because we`re so many members...but the people who can ban members from the forum are the moderators, so it`s sort of like a dictatorship....

But it looks like we`re coming to a solution:

1)-Ignore his baiting posts

2)-Hope that he gets it

I hope this thread has contributed to stop baiting posts not only from Soccerbeast but from anyone else with mocking intentions.

I hope one day we could all meet somewhere (maybe in Germany) and not have any bad feelings about anyone.

Can`t we all just get along????

Ban him.

I am all in favour of free speech. But you can't have free speech without rules. That is why we have laws that ban people from yelling 'fire' in a crowded theatre. That is why every public forum in which free speech survives has some form of moderator, our parliament has a speaker of the house and our city councils have chairpeople. It is to ensure that everyone's right to speak is respected and that the principles of fair debate are adhered to.

Soccerbeast has violated those principles. He has misrepresented himself as a Canadian and a soccer supporter. He does not post in good faith. He is not here to express sincerely held opinions or to make any sort of constructive contribution. He posts only material that is plainly calculated to foment anger, contradict the views of others and to disrupt legitimate debate.

Moderators do your jobs. Soccerbeast's inflammatory ravings would not be tolerated in a public meeting hall. He should not be tolerated here.

Yeah he's wound me up and I still think he's just having us on, but I don't think you should ban him. I don't really like the idea of forum popularity contests, it's all sounding a little too much like Survivor "You're voted OFF this island" and once you do this to one person...

SOJU..believe me im not "having you on" as you say , i stand behind 100% in what i have said. Theproblem here in Canada is that if you don't agree with the majority you are considered a trouble maker, etc.

and in a free socirty that is bad. No one on this site can point to

a post where i was, unkind, racist, etc, Cause thats not the case.

I have been fair to the Canadian team, players ,manager,CSA. The problems with other on this site is that they want me to say the

following:

a) We have a great national football team

B) We have a great manager

c) We still have a chance to qualify for Germany 2006

d) we were robbed by the ref

But if i said that i would be lying through my teeth cause i don't believe a word of it. And you can force someone to believe something

if they don't .

I respect your right to free speech, but I disagree entirely with your views and approach:

a. We do have a great football team because its our team with our best players and they are proudly representing Canada and that what matters most to me. If you think they suck well they have held their own in international friendlies recently in Europe such as against Germany and Scotland. They have no trouble scoring against top teams in Europe. Further they will get better as they play more games together. I can see them being fantastic if we can just get to the next round.

b. Well, you seem to think the manager is crap. I would not say he is not great and don't think anyone on this board has said that for the simple reason that he is untested and has only been the manager for 2 meaningful games. I say lets give him a chance before we judge him. I do respect the his willingness to play young talented players and to experiment a bit.

c. Well we do, plain in simple win 3 games and we are in. I fail to see how this is a mathematical impossibility. There cannot be an argument here. The team has lost only 1 game and won they other game ( I realize it was tie because the ref ****ed up), so that has put us behind a bit, but still it is one loss and one win in reality.

d. I think it plain that we were robbed by the ref. You may doubt one call but put both calls together and you can't deny the ref was biased against Canada.

What the team needs now is confidence and faith from the fans that they are good enough as a team to go through. I don't think your comments are helpful in anyway to provide confidence for the team to advance that is why it is difficult to see why you are an actual fan of the Canadian team.

A great piece of advice I once got, "Never make a decision when you are mad."

SoccerBeast pisses me off for all the reasons he pisses the rest of you off, NOT because he exercises his right to express himself freely, but because he seems hellbent on sabotaging the very thing we are trying so darned hard to do: support and build Canadian soccer. Like I said earlier today in a different post, this forum provides all of us with much needed support, too. Yes, his opinions are silly and malinformed and always poorly delivered, and he clearly has little solid understanding of soccer in general, and our national situation in particular, but to ban him shows OUR WEAKNESS not his.

I've posted this before, and I suggest it again:

IGNORE THE LITTLE DIRT-BAG. Many have suggested this, and it is harsh enough punishment for Duncan. Duncan, as Gordon's pointed out, needs a heap of attention. If you want to hurt him, ignore him. Show YOUR strength, and stop reading or responding to his posts. Pretty soon, when we see one of his posts, we'll just breeze right by it as if it was some sort of annoying pop-up ad interupting an otherwise pleasant bout of porn-surfing.

As much as I hate his meanspiritedness, do NOT ban the little turd.

(Hey, did any of you notice that SoccerBeast and the Mexican ref who screwed us have a very similar accent? Very odd indeed/)

I have to admit being on the fence on this issue. I was on the side of "hey, give him a chance to straighten out" when we dealt with Minorsoccer on the old board. And it didn't work. He was fine for maybe a day.

I think the problem is that our problem is with how he posts (often, annoyingly, and often abusively).

In his view, the problem is that we disagree with his points. I don't want to exaggerate (and the Internet always exaggerates both the symptoms and the perception of the symptoms) but it's like a paranoid schizophrenia. Everyone disagrees with him, he's the only one who sees how things really are, anyone who disagrees with his premises or conclusions is poor deluded soul.

So we're never going to come to a truce, even, until soccerbeast realises that he is the start and end of the problem, or until he goes the hell away.

Let me also say that I often disagree with Jeffrey S, and I still take the time to read all of his posts because I think he has an important perspective on many issues. And I am often in disagreement with Current Champ's opinions and the way he states them, but he does not post the same thing over and over and he does not post many times in the same thread, so I can live happily with his opinions in opposition to mine. And hey, even I agree with him now and again. :)

So anyhow, let's be clear on where the problem lies: not the content of soccerbeast's posts, but their belligerent nature and unreadable look. Let's decide what's wrong with his posts, and demand that he correct it. Let's ask him to limit the number of posts he makes and threads he starts. And if he does not, the moderators delete the posts or threads that do not comply with our demands.

I'm not in favour of his banning, but neither does that make us powerless. This is most assuredly not a democracy, nor is it a free society; it is a product of the collective will and desire of a like-minded, civil group of people. Let's decide what's wrong with this person and make it change to our advantage.

And soccerbeast, you're welcome to contact me at mattbin@gmail.com if you'd like to take issue with any of my points here. I would rather explain my point of view and try to help the issue than continue with the pointless debate and insult-hurling (and yes, I am quite guilty of that myself).

I love the bit about not banning someone simply because they're a moron. :D

No offense intended, but I always found all the complaining and retorts to minorsoccer much more annoying that his actual posts... And I remember his posts being far more frequent and ridiculous than soccerbeast's.

For now, I see soccerbeast's name attached to a post and I simply skip it.. But because I like to read what the rest of you guys right, I inadvertently end up reading four replies complaining about him/or what he's written.

So leave him be, don't respond, and I can go back to happily lurking.

M@, dude, this is an excellent idea, and sort of echoes what Beaches is getting at. I suppose what we are saying is that we don't expect anyone to agree entirely with what anybody else says, but we do expect a modicum of respect for the forum and its guidelines. I do feel that this is the proper and reasonable next step to take: ask SoccerBeast to play fair and respect the forum according to those guidelines (and others) that M@ has suggested here. If he cannot comply, then we will need to take the appropriate next step.

In the meantime, ignore his posts. Do not respond to him. We are strong enough to ignore him, so let's do so.

Do not ban the beast! If you ban him, he will only create another handle and keep on posting anyway, so I don't see what would be solved by that. And I'll admit that I find his posts, and the corresponding outrage somewhat amusing. Obviously there is a lot of passion here for the national team, and that's great, but you all simply shouldn't let him get to you.

I do have passion for the national team JV, but iam the only one who seems to know it's in a mess. Only a few others have joined the Cause stating that our team is not good enough and already finshed, because they don't want to be threatened which as happen to me on this site, even voyageurs has it's hooligan element if you don't agree with us, we'll come and get you.
