1) Attendance??

2) Was that field worse than Kingston?- sure looked like it.

3) Does Devos sit because of the Belize card?

4) Does Stalteri's missed game count on Wednesday even if he is injured?

5) Does everyone else think as do I that the Simpson for Peters sub could have been prompted only be Frank's displeasure for his play, as opposed to a knock picked up during the game? And if that is the case do you think as do I that maybe he has lost his chance for this round?

6) Where on earth was Serioux? Was he being saved? I was practically betting my friend' my future childrens' college tuition that Imhoff was coming off for him around the 60th minute.

7) Is there anyone who still doesn't think that Occean is the real deal?

8) Was that Lars who was bald in a Canadian top signing autographs?

1) Attendance?? 9,654

2) Was that field worse than Kingston?- sure looked like it? Probably, the grass was too long (ball was moving slowly) and it was very slippery for the players.

3) Does Devos sit because of the Belize card? - I don't think so, if he was, I'm sure Dobson or Forrest would have said something.

4) Does Stalteri's missed game count on Wednesday even if he is injured? - Yeah it does count.

5) Does everyone else think as do I that the Simpson for Peters sub could have been prompted only be Frank's displeasure for his play, as opposed to a knock picked up during the game? And if that is the case do you think as do I that maybe he has lost his chance for this round? - I think Frank brings on Peters to light things up and bring a lil rush into the game because hes so young and full of energy. But I really don't believe Peters is ready for this competition.

6) Where on earth was Serioux? Was he being saved? I was practically betting my friend' my future childrens' college tuition that Imhoff was coming off for him around the 60th minute. - Serioux was warming up and everything, can't believe Imhof plays over Serioux. Imhof is compelte rubbish.

7) Is there anyone who still doesn't think that Occean is the real deal? - Well we barely have any depth in the squad as it is, and I think Occean and Radzinski did show a few glimpse of promising play with the short time they had together. Pesch is very ineffective; he's not only small, but he doesn't have the wheels that he use to have.

8) Was that Lars who was bald in a Canadian top signing autographs?

Well I know he does have a shaved head. :)

Sorry, guys...

From the CP article on TSN.ca:

quote:

Canada will head to Costa Rica without deVos, who drew his second yellow card of the playoffs, and injured Paul Stalteri, who drew a red card for throwing a water bottle on the field to protest the negated goal.

It just keeps getting worse, don't it? :-(

Here's the confirmation - De Vos & Stalteri are out against Costa Rica. The $hitty refereeing in the Belize series has combined with the unbelievably $hitty refereeing in this match to screw for the next game.

Canada settles for a single

EDMONTON (CP) - Benito Archundia isn't exactly a household name, but he certainly grabbed the attention of nearly 10,000 soccer fans at Commonwealth Stadium Saturday.

The Mexican referee called two critical fouls against the Canadian national men's soccer team that cost the club a victory in World Cup qualifying and may have crippled its chances to advance. Canada had to settle for a 1-1 tie with Honduras after Archundia awarded Honduras a penalty kick at the lip of the penalty box in the 88th minute after Canada had jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

Amado Gulevara, who was a threat all night, scored on the penalty shot to answer the Canadian goal scored six minutes earlier by defender Jason deVos.

A minute later, after Olivier Occean answered back for Canada, he called a foul against Occean and negated the goal.

The Canadians say neither foul should have been called and their victory was stolen from them.

Canadian Mark Watson said he never even touched Honduran David Suazo when he went down in the Canadian crease.

"I didn't touch him," he said after the game. "Thank God the games are televised now and everyone can see it for their own eyes.

"We could have had a very good victory and put us back in the group and it was snatched away."

DeVos who was also in the play said he was most disappointed for the fans, who thought Canada had cinched a crucial victory.

"It wasn't a penalty. He slipped. You can see the slip marks on the pitch . . . The lad slipped in the box and fell over. There was no contact."

He said the foul called against Occean also appeared to be a bad call.

Canadian coach Frank Yallop said in his entire soccer career, he has never seen officiating like it.

"Two calls in a row," he said. "It was poor, very poor.

"I won't use the word cheated, but that's what comes to mind."

He said Canada is now in a jackpot having to win three of its next four games in order to have a chance to advance to the next round of World Cup qualification.

"It is very, very disappointing to come away with just a tie in this game," he said. "It's tough, but we can still do it."

Honduran coach Raul Martinez, however, saw the two fouls differently.

"The guy was tripped in the box and there was nothing wrong with the penalty," he said on the first call. "On the goal that was taken away (Occean's) foot was up. I thought it was a dangerous foot."

But he didn't blame the Canadian fans for booing the referee. He said if it had happened to Honduras at home, Hondurans would have been mad too.

"We can understand why Canada would be very upset," he said. "That's not our problem. We're happy with the result. We got the point."

The disheartened Canadian squad, ranked 99th in the world, flies to Costa Rica to play Wednesday against the 33rd-ranked team that was favoured to win the pool before the round started.

They play a return match against 47th ranked Honduras Oct. 9.

Canada will head to Costa Rica without deVos, who drew his second yellow card of the playoffs, and injured Paul Stalteri, who drew a red card for throwing a water bottle on the field to protest the negated goal.

Canada has only advanced to the World Cup once, but it was unable to score a goal in its 1986 appearance in Mexico City.

Honduras hasn't qualified since 1982 in Spain, but it came close in 2000 when it lost out in the final round of qualifying.

The fact is we shouldn't have provided the Hondurans with an opportunity when we were up with 8 minutes to go. If we are going to go anywhere in the world cup then 3 wins out of 4 should be doable against these teams. Basically our fault for underestimating the Guats and ****ing up the lead in this game.

Yeah, at the end of the day, it's a mix of both. But it's always easier going down the conspiracy paths and lay the blame elsewhere or at least it feels better, especially when it hurts the most.

Jazic's back pass in the 88th minute was a gift..he should have just booted upwards...sometimes, keeping possession is not that important.. And then, you get any soccer player in the penalty box that late with their team trailing and they are going to try to draw something (Pesch seems to do a lot of that) and in this case, he didn't even dive..he just slipped and fell and lost control.

But nevertheless, you could forgive the ref for making that mistake on the penalty. It was a terrible call, but it's common. But the accepted rule in most sports is that when you give out a really controversial penalty to the other side, you try to compensate or take it easy on the other side and that's where the Mexican ref really blew it on the second goal.
