Fox cancels Sky Sports News?

Loud Mouth Soup

So tonight I see the Bundesliga Highlights show at 7 after the EPL show last night and start to wonder. So I check the schedule for the rest of the week and see French, Argentine and Dutch highlight shows. I check late night time slots. Nothing.

I guess Fox has just up and cancelled carrying SSN without warning.

Another reason for me to cancel digital, I guess.

Yes, they are no longer carrying SSN.

Works for me. FSWR is mostly English, anyway, so their FSWR/SSN two-hour block drove me nuts repeated throughout the night.

Good on them for broadening horizons and adding those other highlight shows! But I don't see Dutch listed on their online schedule?

Yeah, SSN was well done, but unfortunately I didn't care too much for all the lower divisions in England (sorry but it didn't get me.) Also, although I respect them as sports of the highest quality - I just didn't give a rat's rectum about cricket and rugby.

And the highlights? Why can't they understand that we want to see action? The post game interviews are nice, but they're usually just stars who beat the crap out of another team saying how much they respect and admire the other club. Bollocks! EG. "They really fought back hard in the second half, but we persisted, and luckily we snuck in our 7th goal." " we're lucky to come out with three points after that war, our goal keeper stood on his head saving the one freakin shot that good-for-nothin team finally got through our defense." "We better watch out for them in future matches."

Give me endless hours of sweet crosses and one timer goals! An endless, brainless, stream of instant gratification!

Sorry guys. It early, too much coffee, and a lot of stress. I gotta vent somewhere.

Just so everyone is aware and stops bitching for no reason, SSN can not show Premier highlights the same day. I believe it has to do with Match of The Day and the similar ITV show last season having rights to them.

So please, as much as I'm not happy SSN is gone, at least I knew why the highlights weren't shown.

All the others were great to see, though.

I managed to get in touch with Global, who looks after programming for FSWC. They confirmed they have cancelled Sky as it was 'too' costly. They also confirmed that they have cancelled dutch football entirely as well as cut back drastically on EPL. If you thought it was bad before, you aint seen nothing yet.

They made a request to the CRTC to begin showing tennis and golf. Wasnt this channel created for football?? GOOD football? Sorry, that doesnt include the MLS or A-leauge.

Are you interested in the 2nd to 4th English tiers? The quality of the MLS and A-League falls mostly within that range.

But more importantly, we live in CANADA. The people on this forum are fans of CANADIAN soccer. Half of the A-League matches shown on FSWC involved Canadian teams (and a few of these were matches between two Canadian teams) and we were thrilled to get these matches. If you aren't interested in Canadian soccer then what are you doing here?

SSN sucked. We can't bring you the video highlights so we will describe them as much as we can.

I won't miss the show at all. FSW Report is much better IMHO.

Agreed. I would assume the only people complaining are British ex-pats and UK wannabes like the guy at the Globe and Mail. What news did they cover that was not covered by FSWC? Pretty much useless other than some 30 second hilites of crap lower division leagues (which a few of our players play in). My complaint about FSWC has nothing to do with SSN but all to do with dropping the 2nd Bundesliga game they had last season.

I liked SSN, but then again I was mostly interested in the Tranmere highlights. It *was* nice to see actual footage of games previously limited to vague soccernet writeups, atleast for those of us in North America. It's really too bad because with SSN and WSR back-to-back, you really got a full and well rounded serving of soccer news from around the world - old and new.

Yeah, if that's true than that's totally sad. As if there isn't enough tennis and golf on TV as it is! And just last season FSWC was better than FSW U.S. in soccer coverage. Now FSW U.S. has surpassed FSWC and lapped them many times over! Don't they know that the EPL is the only reason the channel came into existence in the first place? And now they hardly show any EPL matches. Not to mention, Argentine league matches are getting pushed back later and later into Sunday night/Monday morning. They show French Ligue 1 and Serie A matches that most Canadians can already receive on basic cable several days before FSWC shows them (the same (boring) games, no less).

This channel is an absolute joke now.

What JayWay said. It certainly came in handy when I wanted to see Serioux's first assist in England.

I much prefered FSWR for Premiership highlights, but loved SSN for lower league highlights, and it's a necessity when you support a team that's not in the Premier League. The shows complement each other.

Perhaps you are confused about why I like SSN. I like it because it shows English football, which is what this channel was promoted as. Dont get me wrong, i have seasons tickets to the Lynx, but they arent a very good team and probably never will be. So dont be so quick to assume that I dont support Canadian football. I also drove around the USA to watch our womans team in the world cup last year. Did you?
