You'd hope that they'll bother to play it, no need to screw ticket holders out of a game.

Speaking of which, there's a poll on Charleston's Web site. 67% of respondents are more interested in the stuff going on apart from the actual game (you have to place a vote in order to see the results, so I voted for the first option):

Best reason to attend Sunday's match!

Final game of the 2004 season

33%

Dunk tank, sumo wrestling and live music pre-match

20%

2004 player awards

22%

FREE ICE CREAM (for the first 600 through the turnstiles)

25%

Thats to be expected. The way A-League soccer is marketed the stuff surrounding the game instead of the game will always come out on top, but considering Charleston was eliminated from the playoffs ages ago, and their opponent has also been eliminated for awhile, of course the aactual game will not be of much interest.

What you are describing is essentially the atmosphere and environment that exists with minor pro sports in the US (eg.: Minor league baseball and AHL hockey)where there are lots of gimmicks but little substance. Sure they pack the joints and everybody is having fun. But no one cares who the players are or how they are performing. Hence there is no emotional attachment to the teams and its players. Yes there is a certain loyalty to to their community that translates to their team but but in truth very few pay attention to what is going on on the field, bother to follow their team through the media, or buy team merchandize.

That is a problem we have with soccer in Canada. Our highest level of professional soccer consists of our concacaf rivals ( ie>: US ) minor leagues. The pro level in the US is the MLS and unless we get a club in that league we will see an ever widening gap between the United States and us. At some point clubs like Montreal, possibly Vancouver and maybe Toronto ( if the the new owner is very ambitious) will hit a plateau and realize that you cannot grow anymore your product or grew the game in this kind of environment. Thats the key, what do we do then? and where will will the crowd levels drop to?

hey man 10 Wins is not bad if we only could have hung on for some points ( OT LOSSES, LATE GOAL LOSSES) we could have earned some more ties and points that way. 10 wins is not great but its ok. Hopefully next year with teh elimination of OT the LYNX can pick up more points. Well I guess others will as well. By the way LYNX ULTRAS...thanx I had an AWSOME SEASON !!!!!!!!!!!!
