Cheeta
You know a thought just occured to me, and it's a good one. This could very well be the last WCQ played out of Swangard. Seriously. New Varsity is going to be built, Vancouver may get a new stadium yet, and if we win through to The Hex the park may just be too small as a venue. Not that we've played a lot of home fixtures the last five years but isn't that just a weird idea? It seemed like once upon a time every other (if not more) home date was at Swangard. Geezus! I gotta work the boss for some time off.
Former Champ
quote:Originally posted by Cheeta This could very well be the last WCQ played out of Swangard. Wow! I'm glad I made the trip(s) now. I was also lucky to go to a Lynx game in Varsity just before it was closed. "memmmmm- ooorrriiiiiies" With any luck we won't miss those gud ol' stadiums as a new generation of 10-20 thousand seat venues will take over. Swanguard just needs a second Grandstand where the parking lot is. They could put underground parking under the stand, and probably not lose any trees. And the venue could stay open during the construction. That'd be about a 12-14 thousand seater!
soccerbeast
ther was nothing wrong with Varsity, nothing a little work couldn't have fixed. Now the lynx play in a park out of town supporters can't get to, and there is no certain a new varsity will be built, the University of Toronto hasn't voted on that yet. I've also had this idea as it makes a lot of sense. They have the space, the pitch, and it would be way cheaper. Yet, I've never heard anything official regarding such a plan. why not? DarnCherry
There originally was a plan to put a grandstand on the parking lot side. For some reason the plan fell through. Since then the idea has been turned down because they don't want to build onto the park space, and think that if they put up an extra grandstand they'd have to cut down trees for the parking. However: Like I was mentioning to current champ, they could easily build a grandstand over the parking lot (so that the first row of seats are 10 feet of the ground) and then put a concourse at the top of the bleachers, with extra washrooms and maybe inproved press boxes. So such a grandstand may increase the capacity to over 10,000, but I'm sure the city of Burnaby won't go for it because of expenses etc. Afterall they are too cheap to even put a semi-decent scoreboard in there. I'd imagine that Burnaby would really hike up the rent if it did happen.
Former Champ
quote:Originally posted by Krammerhead You stole that idea from me! Maybe... (probably) I don't remember. It is kinda obvious, though. How much could it possibly cost to build a basic grandstand? And they shouldn't have to touch any trees! PS Nazz... any seat without a gooback in it is good for me! redhat
Nazz, I'm afraid that I won't be able to attend the Oct game as my wife cannot take the time off. Thanks for going out of your way for us. Jake

DarnCherry
I have a strong feeling that it will be like last time, people ending up where it's more comfortable for them. I don't expect I'll last long in the second row, the people in front of me might need earplugs.

nolando
Nazz, I am planning to be at the game and am hoping to bring mates along again. If you are stuck with tix I will buy at least mine from you and coerce a few fair-weather fans along too. I will be in our section either way- screaming beside CC and K-Head once again. That would be great Nolando. It looks like some people cannot make it for various reasons and I might be stuck with a few. There are people at work that could help me out but they would go more to party than as hardcore supporters.I could also take CC up on his offer of selling them before the game in front of Swangard.I'll be at Swangard at 600pm the day of the game but I have to hang the banners which takes some time so I wont be able to sell the tickets myself. Is your phone#still the same?
