G-Man
In todays's Toronto Star they had a article on the Lynx. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&call_pageid=971358637177&c=Article&cid=1093558211404 The one thing that hit home was the fact that the Lynx's budget this year was 260k. That their salary range was from 10k to 23K. At best this is a semi-pro outfit. If they were in Norway and playing the UEFA Cup, they'd say "the Lynx part timers take on the giants from Newcastle" These players either have really accomodating girlfreinds who let them live with them for free and pick up 90 of expenses or they guys have other jobs. So lets stop calling the lynx a pro club. Especially after only getting 15K for from Millwall for Serioux.
Jarrek
The Lynx are also meeting with European investors about building their own 10,000-seat stadium for $10 million or less in Downsview, at the CNE or at York University.

I'd love to see this happen but realistically, I can't see it with the New Varsity now a reality. It would be useful for the 2007 tournament, but what happens to it after that? But can you imagine going from zero to two decent parks in just a matter of months? We can dream.......

I have been following some of the Whitecaps story this year, and have been wondering about that situation myself. If the club pays enough for them to live throughout the year (20,000+) then I think it seems fair to call them pros. But if these guys are really working on the side to make ends meet (isn't Valente working weekends at his family restaurant?) then we should think of calling these teams semi-pro. Of course, many of the guys pick up jobs playing indoor or other soccer related business in the off-season- so most of the guys are definitely NOT part-timers. I have all the admiration in the world for these guys who play for the Canadian teams in the A-League, and I don't want to take anything away from them, but it might be an important distinction in terms of comparison to call the team or even the league part-time, semi-pro. Rocket Robin
The Star's annual hatchet job on the Lynx. They didn't cover a Lynx game this year but fawned all over the two games at Skydome. The Toronto Star only covers 'major' league sports. Nice to see Clarkson actually taking attendance personally instead of using official Lynx figures of 2000 last night. Of course the Lynx can take the blame for puffing up last years attendance but I'd say this year's attendance was more than last year.

On Many nights the grand stands were mostly full. The attendance at Lynx game is quite good all things considered. I doubt that the place can fit 3000 and, come on, look at where it is located? consider also the record and you can say that they have a very loyal and solid base of 2000 - 2500 . You can build off of that very well with an injection of capital. I just hope that they keep the name when a new owner comes in. We cannot have another bloody name change to further confuse fans
