Andrew W
As many of you remember last year I posted a list of Canadians playing "abroad" in NCAA Div. I soccer. Rather than dig up that thread and update it I've started a new one which contains much of that information and any updates many of you posted. With the college season ready to go I thought it was a good time to update. [^] Like last year I don't consider this list complete or wholly accurate, but rather one compiled from individual university websites, utilizing their information. Some of the websites aren't kept as up-to-date as others thus some of the information isn't as reliable. Feel free once again to comment and provide any information or updates that will make the list more complete. As well, now there is a division II list. I don't plan on doing a CIS list for reasons listed last year (meaning it would be too big with virtually 98 per cent of the players being Canadian). That doesn't mean I prefer or find one level of a superior quality. The CIS players play in Canada and are accessible by following your local university side (which I do, go Dinos! ). Enjoy and I hope you find some of the names familiar. Olivier Occean and Olivieri are both from DII powerhouse Southern Connecticut and Allen Marcina played at DII Barry University. Also we should not write off D3 players since Greg Sutton played at St-Lawrence University. And there's an Argentina national team player who played with a D3 team in New Jersey, I don't remeber is name but I know that he played or is still playing with Real Madrid. Andrew W
Did you guys read the preamble? I said there will be a Div. II list next week. I've already got the guy from South NH in my master list. Putting these things together takes a little time you know. Nobody's been written off. I was just mentionning those names out of my head, I,m not saying that someone has been written off. I was just trying to give the names of canadians players who once PLAYED in the NCAA D2 or 3. And I forgot about Felix Brillant.

Some of these sites are recent updates. Louisville just updated their men's soccer section this past weekend, so I kind of was just quickly adding in people and missed that one. It happens. Andrew W
Thanks for the props. It actually doesn't take as long as I thought, particularly after compiling the initial list last year. At least I had that to go on. Division II is a trifle more difficult because there are more schools and the web pages can be less reliable than some of the Div. I sites (particularly the big schools where there is likely a whole web division). I'll be doing my final sweep through the Div. II sites this week waiting for updated soccer sections. I hope they're updated. [xx(]
Jason
On the topic of NCAA soccer, has anyone heard what Rob Catana is up to? He should have graduated from Hartwick College last year. I expected him to be playing for the Aviators or Mustangs this year. Jason
BC supporter
Interesting list, Andrew. Also intriguing to see that the two major schools in Kentucky -- UK and Louisville (both of whom are huge basketball powers) -- have 9 Canadians between them. UK's are all from BC, and Louisville's (mostly) from Ontario. I wonder how these two pipelines got started?
nolando
Yeah good job Andrew. You wouldn't happen to know an an infamous buddy of mine from Olds, now would you? Paul Becker?
Andrew W
A few thoughts: Sorry, don't know Paul Becker, although in a town this size it's the usual "name sounds familiar though" . We've only lived here a couple of years. As for the pipeline to the Kentucky schools, I have no idea where the UK connection is, however I read once on the Louisville site that the coach has a connection with someone in the Woodbridge soccer system. Adrian Cann played there as did Marco Terminesi and now Celebre. They likely played against Grant in the Scarborough system. As for Matthews, no idea. As for Rob Catana, no idea either. He hasn't returned as a fifth year senior so he's not at Hartwick anymore. I expected him to show up on one of the Alberta A-League teams.
Andrew W
Hello again, Today (Friday) I just added a list of the Division II players up in the first posting. Like the Div. I guys, this is compiled from the schools' websites, so not all are updated while others still don't have any information or old information (and the Div. II sites can generally be less reliable than those of Div. I schools). So as the saying goes: I did the best I could with what I had. I'll try to update it when I find something or one of you does. Just post any additions or deletions. Thinking of adding a Div. III and possibly an NAIA list as well. Enjoy.
Andrew W
Just added an update as Dwayne Chin at Robert Morris was not on my original posting. Been checking on some of the Canadian guys and many are off to great starts. I'll post any updates to rosters that I (or you) find and anything else of note. Andrew W
Well, I've done a few updates as of now. Couple of new players in and a couple of deletions. One guy I'm wondering about is Frank Bruno from Syracuse who played with our U-20s. He is no longer listed with the 'Cuse, so I wonder where he is at, if anyone has any info. In another piece of news, Matt Britner of Brown and the U-20 nats is out for the season with an injury. No idea what the injury is. Cheers
hiltonhero
Frank Bruno is currently with the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS he has beent there for 2 weeks already and doing very well, ive also heard from an inside source that he will be returning to Toronto in about 2 weeks time and will be returning to KC in january when preseason starts up again. Maybe another Canuck MLS player, maybe deserving a call up for the MNT. If anyone has more info please post
Andrew W
quote:Originally posted by Sigma Just so you know, most Div III schools have websites. When I played, I only ran into three other Canadian players. I would expect more Canadian players in the NAIA then Div III. I have access to all the Div I through Div. III links though the NCAA.org site. NAIA also has its own site. I did have Div. III list last year which I posted on last year's thread. NAIA will have more simply because of SFU which plays at that level, although there are others. I think the main difference is most Div. III schools do not offer full-ride scholarships for athletics. BTW, what school did you attend? You must be a smart cookie because many of the Div. III schools maintain fairly high academic standards.
