Crappy A League Refs- Edmonton- Minn Aug 23 (R)

About 300 (my estimate) out on a cold (6 C) miserable night for EFC's last home match.

The ref was decent until the half, and over his java must have been scared by the gathering darkness, as he turned into Dr, Hyde in the second half, as he was obviously worried about the possibility of the infamous Edmonton overtimes repeating. EFC did not deserve to win, as were missing one-on-ones all night.

No scoring in first half, though Minnesota had some great chances. Edmonton could not penetrate wall in the box. Minnesota has probably one of the best defences in the A-League, at least in the West.

Second half, both goals came from questionable calls. Our defence was disorganized as hell. GK Stankov had a good match (he could have given a clinic to Onstad today on how to kick a moving ball). The first goal was from a corner kick at 55', a good kick taken by the striker in the box and samshed in at close range. The second was a Penalty Kick goal at about the 70' mark (wasn't sure of the time) from their tiny African striker. The PK was awarded for a dive as the striker lost control of the ball. Lots of other questionable calls.

DJT, they made the announcement about the situation in the Voyageur Cup like we asked. Don't know how EFC will fare, they only had three bench players dressed tonight at home.

Thanks beachesl and whoever else was involved. We're hoping to have the trophy sitting on the sidelines on Wednesday (thanks to Bxl Boy and others who are organizing this with the Impact), so that will be a clear reminder of what's at stake.
