DarnCherry
You guys are really a bunch of ****ing dicks. We stood all game, we spilled out into the adboards, and we had the cops arrest a couple of our guys, and a near riot. Don't tell us we didn't do our job. DarnCherry
The game was sold out as well. What more do you want? I have picture as well but I'm not going to effing post them after reading all of this negative bull**** regarding out support at the game. Polish_LYNX_Fan
Kramerhead nothing against the V's I'm sure you did ya JOB the thing is the CSA went out west and is going tehre cause it claims its a PRO-CANADIAN crowd and it clearly was not. I have no doubts you guys did everything possible just as we did in Kingston but I think if this game was being played in Kingston the same number of guats would have been there. nolando
K-Head, I gave you guys your props in the post-game string, and I have never seen a Canadian section like that before. It was head an shoulders above anything I saw on TV in Kingston, no disrespect. And you guys in Ontario got on TV a few times. Sportsnet couldn't be bothered to even give us one look on screen. No question- Southsiders made that section much crazier than it would have been otherwise. My only qualms are with the many blue jerseys on a night when Canada plays a team in blue (a no-excuse, no brainer really) and with the many people there who were just standing and screaming and starting shaight who seemed to have no interest in the game or the Canadian players whatsoever. Granted that's a hundred times better than the thousands of classic Vancouver "golf clap" fans who sat down the entire game and couldn't be bothered to even cheer our own anthem. let alone the rest of the game. The REAL question is what kind of a section to you want to have to represent the Voyageurs? I think we should expect more than just inviting a few of the "party crew" guys, aggro boys that hardly need an excuse to scream and get drunk and get ornery. I don't think I'm being too sentimental when I say that the Voyageurs should mean something more than that.

You must be mistaking something. There has never been a claim that a game in Vancouver would be a pro-Canadian crowd. I stopped going to International games at Swangard in the early 90's because we would be outnumbered by the foreign support. The only thing we claim is that we are more hardcore and rowdy, and we proved it last night. Shame that once again the prople broadcasting the game blew it and mic'd the Guatemalans and seemed to focus more on them. I wonder why the camera didn't get a shot of all the cops and security roughing up southsiders during the second half. They couldn't have missed it, there was a handful of cops a couple of security and drinks falling down on the cops and southsiders/voyageurs (props to Current Champ) trying to rescue the southsiders being abused. Great chants of TASER, TASER, TASER, were happening at the same time. Sure beats holding a cucumber.
nolando
The TASER chant, the WHO's THE WHITE GUY (for the blonde-haired, fair Guatemalan) and the mini- wave we did for the Black cop who told us we had to sit down or be escorted out were all highlights from our section. Apparently for their own safety was the official word from the Cops. But when you remove people for their own safety you usually don't rough them up. Johnniemonster, went over in front of the section of Guatemalans who were mic'd and started doing his chants. He was shpwered with bottles and garbage. Next thing you know Johnniemonster is getting hauled away. Current champ and a Southsider by the name of GutterGob went in to rescue him and Gutter Gob was escorted out as well. Funnily enough, Gutter Gob was confronted by a Guatemalan with a knife earlier on in the game. Cops and security who were nearby did nothing about that. WTF ! aggro boys ! you got to be kidding me so you think the Southsiders don't know about the Canadian players ? oh please Nolando there has to be more behind your comments ? The Southsiders do know about our Nats and most other teams in this country ! some post on this board most lurk because of all the anti west talk. I just dont think you can make such a comment when our section had so many people who did not even have tickets for it ... why becasuse it was a great spot to share our pride for our team and our country ! in one hand you enjoyed the singing ...the other hand it sounds like you want us to be tea drinkers

I don't think I'm being too sentimental when I say that the Voyageurs should mean something more than that. Nolando, you were there so of course you know the situation. What pisses me off is the people who weren't at the game, bitching about the crowd size (I guess they don't realize when a game sells out it sells out and you can't fit any more people into the stadium) and generally saying we were quiet. I knew that someone who was at both Kingston and Vancouver would be able to say that we did a better job. Regarding the fans that weren't wearing Canada colours that is dissapointing. However not everybody has the money to purchase a Canada kit, and since they rarely play home games it not really a priority for a lot of these fans to purchase. Remember a lot of Southsiders are Whitecaps fans first, Canada second. There's nothing wrong with that. At least they showed up and were loud. I don't understand your point about fans standing there and screaming and starting shaight. I don't recall us starting any of the problems. I do recall guats starting a lot of problems starting off with not sitting in their designated seats and infiltrating our section. You open up a can of worms when you ask what do we want representing the Voyageurs. Nobody from the Southsiders were representing the Voyageurs, thats why we had our own banner. When we started the Southsiders in 1999 it was to bring some fun and some atmosphere to games. If that means having a few too many drinks, so be it. If that means shouting and cursing then the more the better. If it has to be that we get seperate section next time (too late for the next game) so that the Voyaguers will be represented in a better ligh then so be it. In Vancouver there is not a lot of people who feel a part of the Voyageurs. We got together when Vancouver Fan bought the tickets so that we'd have one large section, not so that we'd all be Voyageurs. Now that a lot of Voyageurs are bitching even more about games being played in Vancouver you will see even a further division of Southsiders and Voyageurs. Probably all a moot point becasue if the Voyageurs get their way there will be no more games after Oct. 13 in Vancouver.
DarnCherry
Well Sigma, all of us Southsiders and Voyageurs who had pre game drinks and food in the park and stood up for each other at the game were all friends. But when you read some of the comments on the board from people that were not even at the game not to mention that now there are even comments about southsiders drinking and aggro and it's hard to feel like we are all in it together. nolando
I think I've said my peace, K-Head and anybody who saw me at the game knows I wasn't drinking tea myself. My question about the purpose of a Voyageur's section is indeed a loaded one, since with the pathetic level of support we get for Canadian soccer, we really can't be choosy- we just don't have the numbers to think about dividing ourselves further. That goes for this regional infighting too. I'm happy to stand next to you at the match- just buy your boys some red or white t-shirts (25- 50 cents at Value Village). I'll call your bluff and say that you don't need to buy a full Canadian kit to leave your blue jerseys at home. Anyways, enough shaight, we are not done yet, let's look forward to Edmonton. Bedsides, people we will forget all about deciding whether Kingston or Vancouver had the weakest support if Commonwealth is 3/4 empty.
Jarrek
Umm, brining your blue Whitecaps outfit to a Canada game when the opponents colours are blue, is just a very BAD call. I think everyone should know by now that Canada's colours are red and white.
DarnCherry
I did my part about letting them know they should wear red, as did Vancouver Fan and Footy. I let them know that they could have gone to Army and Navy and bought a $9.99 Umbro jersey months ago (the same ones that Edmonton FC purchased for their players), and some guys did wear red that hadn't thought of it before. One of the Southsiders did show up with a brand spanking new Canadian kit with the price tag still on. Most southsiders were wearing red (or the white kit). The ones you saw wearing other colours were friends of southsiders that aren't regular soccer fans. As for Johnnie, he was wearing his home made blue Southsiders jersey, in no way is it close to Guatemalas blue, and he's a big guy, not many jerseys fit him. Smash
quote:Originally posted by nolando .... no interest in the game or the Canadian players whatsoever. . Problem is that the game, and the Canadian players in particular, was not interesting whatsoever. Unless you count guys in red shirts standing around while little guys in blue shirts run circles around them as "interesting", or unless you count guys in red shirts randomly kicking the ball away in any direction - usually to a guy in blue or off the pitch - immediately when getting the ball as "interesting". Not me though. The Southsiders / Voyageurs provided the only entertainment last night. That's often the case at Swangard, but that should not have been the case last night. My point is that anyone who is bitching about the fans instead of the absolutely pathetic display by the team is perhaps the ones who have "no interest in the game whatsoever". Jarrek
I for one don't think the fans had any impact on the teams performance last night. I wasn't there, so I can't comment on that. I'm sure most of you really showed up yesterday, it's too bad the CMNT failed to show up.

But at the same time, I don't believe you can make a proper assessement without having attended both matches live. Being in the thick of things, as well as having your view limited by what the camera shows and how it shows it, both have a way of blurring one's perspective somewhat.
