kokanne
The CSA should take donations over the long term until they have enough money to start a proper 16 team division 1. Im sure over 5-10 years they could probably scrap together some 10 million plus toward a league, especially if they can get a tax refundable status. Also, why can't we ever get a proper CSA Cup going. get the PCSL, CPSL properly involved and offer more money then CPSL Cup offers, this would be my way of building towards a proper league. Gets the teams playing each other for something meaningful such as Canadian Cup. This provides a way for other cities to start some sort of team to compete which could turn into another Pro team at some point, if they develop interest in the market or have some success. Im sure the CSA could work with the USL to get certain dates off for Cup matches. This way the canadian pro teams would get extra dates to make money. Get somebody like Westjet or Air Canada "I know air canada is broke" to be the title sponsor not Rogers, get them to provide a few free flights to start. This way you can build up a relationship with them so that when you start a league you can have cheap transportation. Im sure TheScore/Sportsnet/TSN would be glad to broadcast the Cup final at least. and I bet Fox Sports Canada would be interested in broadcasting a few of the other games. Don't go for the big time just go for small to start. Build on the success of the CSA Cup which hopefully develops relationships with potential sponsors. Gives the sport a yearly public spotlight and hopefully build up strong canadian rivalries. Other peoples thoughts appreciated.
DarnCherry
Why would we call it the CUSL?
kokanne
To me it doesn't really matter. What would you call it?
DarnCherry
Anything but CUSL. CSL sounds good. CUSL is just the USL (American) with a C on the front.
Timotas
FYE - Frank Yallop Experience Don't look at it as weird, but as different.
kokanne
FYE, perhaps may draw attention for being wacky. CSL, That would be my first choice, but I was always under the impression that somebody owned the rights to it who wasn't in the mood to relinquish it. G-Man
How BWOTDBFSL big waste of time, done before, failed before soccer league. It's like the MLS Toronto thing where no-one can actually say who is the money behind it. Name me 10 owners in various cities first willing to lose 1 million a year at the least. It's a big country to get around. Travel alone would be expensive. North/South works better than East/West.
Luis_Rancagua
Call it whatever you want, I am in full support of this idea of a new Canadian pro-league and as well as an open-cup competition between the provincial leagues and the new proposed pro-league. Yes, the MLS also shouln't have started up after all professional soccer leagues had been done before in the USA many times and all of them had failed. Nope everyone should give up on anything if it has been tried before and failed. Just like you have given up on spelling "field" and the name of your location "Wakefield" correctly. kokanne
Well at least we should have some sort of real Open Cup competition. I do believe if Vancouver and Montreal can be successfull, then at some point other cities can be successfull. Television is the important part of any Pro sport, it builds the interest and makes it easy to be a supporter of a team. Also, by starting with an open cup competition your allowing for Soccer Associations to put teams in which maybe they can be involved in running pro teams at some point. They already have the Academy in place why not allow them to try running pro teams. Abbotsford Soccer Association runs a USL PDL team. They could be used as a model. The MLS has lost 250 million and counting. Funny how- you now you promote the MLS, when you’ve pasted it so many times before. AND I'm sure the king of the South siders would love to pony up his hard earned cash and help out with the loses of a pan-Canadian league. Cause you’re such a hardcore soccer fan. It’s one thing to get drunk behind a goal; it’s another to actually work at getting a league off the ground and willing to lose one’s shirt. Which I gather Krammerfeild, you’re not in a financial position to do so. So buy yourself another Whitecap ticket and 4 beers and enjoy your fanatasy. Just stand there and demand that others do it for you.
Luis_Rancagua
What's really important here is the concept of the Canadian Open-Cup. It has been 4-years that Kevan Pipe and the CSA have proposed such an idea, and that idea has not moved at all. I am getting sick and tire of the broken promise by the CSA. When are we going to have our Open-Cup???
DarnCherry
Hey, G-String, I didn't say anywhere that I support the MLS. I just love to counter anything you say because you are so full of crap.
