Stu
August 15 2004 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Courtesy: BBC.co.uk Dundee United have offered a five-month contract to Canada international goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld after a successful trial. The 25-year-old was released by Tottenham Hotspur after failing to make a first-team appearance in two years at White Hart Lane. United manager Ian McCall said: "We've made an offer to Lars and are waiting on him getting back to us. "He has looked good in training and we need a goalkeeper." McCall has been looking for back-up for new first-choice Tony Bullock since the sale of Scotland international Paul Gallacher to Norwich City during the summer. Former Calgary Storm goalkeeper Hirschfeld had loan spells at Luton Town and Gillingham. "We have been in contact with Lars's agent with a view to an initial contract of maybe five months and we can look at things further at the end of it," said McCall. "But my hunch is that he will be here for much longer than that - he really looks the part." Hirschfeld was left out of Frank Yallop's Canada squad for next Wednesday's Concacaf zone World Cup qualifier against Guatemala in Vancouver and will hope a move to United will his place back in the national squad. ballboy
That is good news... ... I am just so glad to see the fella getting a club and a chance to show what he is about. Sure, it's a back-up gig to start with but it's a good first step.
