Massive Attack
Men's World Cup Team Saturday, August 14, 2004 Biello Replaces Radzinski Against Guatemala Mauro Biello Vancouver, BC – The Canadian Men’s World Cup Team has added Montreal Impact midfielder and captain Mauro Biello to the roster for the semi-final World Cup Qualifier against Guatemala on Wednesday. Biello will replace Tomasz Radzinski who suffered a calf injury while playing with Fulham against Manchester City on Saturday. Biello has played four games with the Canadian World Cup team (1999 against Haiti in Gold Cup competition, friendlies against Chile in 1995, Iran in 1997, and Trinidad & Tobago in 2000). He was also called up by the Canadian team for World Cup qualifiers in 1997. Biello is the Impact’s all-time leading scorer with 55 goals, 53 assists and 163 points in 11 seasons. http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=1841

Cheeta
Oh, boy. De Rosario has a flu, and Radz. just pulled up lame. We've lost our 1st two strikers and McKenna's still limping. Wonderful. The face of our attack has completely changed practicaly overnight. And not for the better. This is just fu'king wonderful. Now what?
ballboy
Nothing personal against Biello (I wish him well) but... ...@#%$!
kclee
This is just Occean, Simpson, Peters and Serioux's chance to shine. We can still win. No problem.
Vancouver Fan
This was bound to happen sometime during qualifications.I've seen this all too often. Remember though, this is the position that we've all been talking about how much depth we finally have.
Gian-Luca
It's bad enough that Radzinski won't be there, but why oh why replace him with Biello? I think I'd rather have Corazzin as a replacement striker. And that's saying something.

Or even Xausa.Corazzin has been suffering through a broken cheek bone and not really on form. It's difficult to head the ball with that kind of injury and heading is carlos strength. bettermirror
relax. as though our first XI even without radzinski can't score and pretty much hand guatemala there hats. sure we've lost fantastic quality, but we'll be ok. de ro will give everything no matter if he's sick with 104 degrees. (ala michael jordan). simpson is now sure to start on the left with de ro up front and he'll run right at these guats who will be caught totally off guard. i better go see my prediction. Winnipeg Fury
Without Hume, McKenna, Rad, and DD on the mend, Canada has lost our entire goal-scoring punch. Time for Otto to step-up and show Canada why he is one of the leading scorers in the Tippeligaen. We are very thin up front and Biello is not a good choice. Pesch is not capable of going hard for 90, and is generally only used as a sub by club and country. If DD has been quarantined by SJ, he is extrememy ill and will not be up to par for Canada. Otto has to shine for Canada !
RS
Starting lineup prediction: GK: Onstad LB: Jazic CB: Watson CB: DeVos RB: Stalteri LM: Simpson AM: DeGuzman DM: Hutchinson RM: Imhof F: De Rosario F: Peschisolido Occean will sub in for either Pesch or De Ro at the half. Luis_Rancagua
Hell with that!!!! Put Occean right from the start. he's going to wipe the (a)ss of the Guatemalen team.
Winnipeg Fury
Otto has to start, as he is the only forward that will probably be capable of going 90 minutes. Pesch is only good for a half, and DD may be able to muster one half. That cements Otto in the starting squad. 2 goals in the UEFA Cup this week doesn't hurt either. Guest Georgio
Is wiping the opposing teams ass something Occean really wants to do? I can't seem to picture how following them around with bathroom tissue will be very intimidating. Kick some butt ... sure, I'm all for that. I do agree fully though, Occean is on form and I say start him!
RS
I agree with all of you, Occean should start. What I posted above was a prediction of what I think Yallop will put on the field. If I had my way, Watson wouldn't see the field if absolutely necessary, either.
Guest Dave
It's a blow to be sure, but we're still OK. Lineup like this: Onstad Jazic Devos Gervais Serioux Derosario Deguzman Stalteri Imhoff Occean Pesch Still a good looking lineup. Move Stalteri up to shore up the midfield. Occean covers for Rad. If DD can't go on Wednesday, Simpson gets the start. We are gonna CRUSH those stinking cheating diving GUATS like so many slimey bugs!!!
Guest Dave
Just a thought. If Dwayne is really contagious then what happens if half the team catches whatever he has over the next three days? AHHHH, don't even want to think about that.
Daniel
quote:Originally posted by Massive Attack Tomasz Radzinski who suffered a calf injury while playing with Fulham against Manchester City on Saturday. WHAT THE F*CK????? I've seen this ONE too many times with Radz. Until I get confirmation that he's *truly* injured I'll file this in "excuse not to fly to Vancouver to play (pffffff) Guatemala". Couple it with his declaration to Matthias Van Halst of impactsoccer.com that he expected to participate in maybe 8-10 WCQ...

If he was injured, there should be some news on a Fulham site. Regardless, we will have to overcome this obstacle.
Peschfan
Wow talk about bad timing! This couldnt come at a worse time, but this is the obstacles that WCQ brings. It is an opportunity for others to stae there claim, and other guys to step it up. Biello is a worthy addition but obviously will not replace what Radz brings. Not likely any other european player could fly over in such short notice. Biello has some national team experience and has played with the B squad recently. he will hold his own if needed. Time for the team to really come together now.
